Middle School News

Upper Primary (Years 5-6)

The Grade 5/6 staff and students have returned to school for Term Two with a lot of energy, excitement and anticipation. The two-day week to start get students settled into positive learning routines and revising student expectations.

We have a very busy term ahead. Starting off with swimming after the first week has been a great success with student enjoying the program and cooperating to keep to the tight transport schedule. Thank you for your co-operation with preparing students.

For almost half the students we then have our camp next week. Those who are not attending will experience a modified program at school with a lot of exciting, hands-on and practical fun activities that they don’t often get to experience.

Our Inquiry topic this Term focuses on the jobs people in the community have and the differing roles of community helpers. Students will be finding out about the wide range of differing occupations and ways to earn money.  Doing what you can to highlight people’s jobs or occupations when in the community with your children would further enrich their learning. The Mother’s Day stall will be on Tuesday the 6th of May with items priced at either $1, $2, $4, $5, $8 or $10.  There will also be a Mother’s Day Morning Tea on Friday the 9th of May which an attendance reply form has been sent home for.

Later in the term we have the Winter Fete which we are starting to prepare ideas for.

Regards,

The Grade 5/6 Team.

Lower Secondary (Years 7-8)

Last week, the students in  7/8 took part in travel training as part of their learning in the community. One group caught the train to Watergardens Shopping Centre, where they enjoyed lunch and practised using public transport safely and responsibly. The second group explored their local area on a community walk through St Albans, finishing up with a fun visit to a nearby park.

In the classroom, we’ve been working on data collection in Maths. Students came up with their own questions, surveyed their classmates, recorded their findings using tallies, and then used that information to create colourful bar graphs. It was a great way to combine real-world learning with classroom skills!
