Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal
Welcome back to Term 2, I hope you all enjoyed the break and that the additional public holidays gave you the opportunity to spend some time as a family without the pressures of work. Our staff have returned energised for the term ahead and this was evident in their enthusiasm in the professional learning they engaged with on the first two days of term. Across the two days, we participated in sessions on supporting students in the areas of High Potential and Gifted Education and Managing Challenging Behaviour. These were incredibly informative and gave our stage teams lots to think about.
This term, we have streamlined our communication platforms and moved across to School Bytes for attendance, communication and reporting. The change in reporting coincides with the introduction of a new report format. The new format has been developed by the NSW Department of Education in response to feedback from parents and educators to make reports easier to read and understand. Your child’s report will still show their progress across all subject areas. Teacher comments will appear in English, mathematics and the general comment section, in line with department policy. The general comment for Kindergarten also covers all other key learning areas, including creative arts, HSIE, PDHPE, and science and technology. A new achievement scale and descriptions are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress. Reports will be sent home in week 10 via the Parent Portal. As always, once you receive your child’s semester report, if you have any further questions, your child’s teacher is happy to meet with you to discuss their progress and achievement in more detail.
With the start of Term 2 we move into our winter uniform. All students are expected to be in full winter uniform from the start of week 3. A copy of the schools uniform has been included in this newsletter for your reference (see P&C News).
In the school holidays, I had the honour of joining our School Captains Chloe and Hugo, at Forest Park for the Epping RSL sub-Branch ANZAC Dawn Service. It was a cold but thankfully dry morning with many local schools in attendance, along with a number of community groups. Laying a wreath at the dawn service is an important school tradition and one that our captains carried out with a great deal of respect. I thank the families for joining us.
I am excited to announce that our new playground space is almost ready. Currently, our students are working hard on coming up with a special name for this space. We will be seeking the support of our P&C to select the top 3 choices for our students to vote on to determine the final name. This name will be revealed at our grand opening which will occur later this term once our students have assisted in creating rules and expectations for the space. Keep an eye out for further details.
Last term I sent out a parent survey asking for feedback on a number of areas to assist with future planning. One of these areas was identifying what resources the community would like to fundraise for. 46% of respondents identified technology as a key area for fundraising along with 27% identifying fundraising for Literacy and Numeracy resources. With this outcome we have put forward a proposal to the P&C to join the school in jointly funding technology. At the next P&C meeting on the 26 May, I will be outlining and discussing this proposal. The P&C will then vote the following meeting on whether they will support this joint project. I hope you can join me at this meeting and ask any questions on our plan to not only increasing the technology across the school but building a STEM and Robotics lab that provides new and exciting opportunities for our students in this area.
Finally I would like to share the news that Miss Rajakariar will be taking up an appointment in another educational setting and will be leaving Roselea Public School. Her last day will be Friday 9 May. We are sad to see Miss Rajakariar go and thank her for her contributions to Roselea Public School over the last 8 years. We wish her all the best for the future.
