News from Christine Cross

Director of Mission

The annual Ride for Rosies initiative is another wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and support a great cause. Happening on 13 June, St Monica's will be joining us again to raise money for Rosies, an organisation that provides much-needed services for those in our community who are living in poverty. Over 50 students from Saints will be participating in the ride, showcasing their commitment to helping others. Please consider donating to this worthy cause by scanning the QR code below.

Thank you also to the volunteers (staff and students) who continue to support the weekend Rosies care for community events where food and other goods are given to people in need.

The Ozanam Leadership Program

This program is an opportunity presented by St Vincent de Paul to give Year 10 and 11 students the chance to become compassionate leaders within their own community. The Ozanam Leadership Program is values- and skills-based and encourages students to develop their own knowledge and skills that will add value to their community.

The program is named after the founder of the St Vincent de Paul Society, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, a law student in France during the 1830s. He often walked to school and saw many disadvantaged people along the streets. He debated this with his fellow law students, when one day he was challenged by a fellow student to take action. Frederic recognized his inaction and decided to start the   society. Saints’ boys participating are Andron Petrou, Lucas Wilsch, Will Palmer, Nathon Packham, Oliver Alden, Ruben Cole and Sam Barber.  Congratulations boys.

Ecological project with Cairns Regional Council

The Year 8 back-at-school program included a collaborative project with Cairns Regional Council which involved students weeding the Yellow Arrow trailhead track. It was a successful morning for both groups. The students commented that it was good to be able to give back the community with some service, and that some time outdoors is a nice break from the classroom to learn about the environment.
