School Council Report

March School Council Meeting
The second School Council meeting for term one was held on 31st March, following our Annual General Meeting (AGM) where Paul presented the FPS Annual Report. As announced in the last newsletter in term one, School Council warmly welcomed the new members to their first meeting – Jock Hutton, Huon Morton, Sally Thorpe and Grace Clark (Department of Education & Training (DET) member). We also acknowledged and thanked the outgoing members who have all contributed greatly during their time – Dan Freer, Nat King and Anneliese Staubli.
As this was the first meeting of the new School Council, time was spent setting up for the year ahead. We appointed the positions of President, Vice-President and Treasurer, reviewed all Subcommittee Terms of Reference and member allocations. Our School Council Subcommittees (Policy, Buildings & Grounds and Social Club) are an important way to continue work outside of School Council meetings, and we invite anyone who is interested to get involved. Please contact the school or a School Councillor if you are interested!
Council then reviewed the FPS Council Goals and Objectives, with good discussion on ensuring the focus was aligned with the School's vision and values, as well as ensuring good governance. The Annual Report was also endorsed so that it will be submitted to the DET.
The following school policies were noted and/or approved:
- Green Purchasing Policy
- Mobile Phone Policy
- Medication Policy (administration and storage of medication)
We also discussed some of the upcoming events, in particular the Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall Fundraiser and the quick turnaround required to organise this event.
It was a full and productive first School Council meeting. We look forward to working together as a School Council to ensure FPS continues to be a thriving school and community.
