Discipleship - Following Jesus

Last week, in one of my regular conversations with students, one student shared with me how tough it was to admit they hadn’t completed an assignment honestly. “It would’ve been easier to stay quiet,” they said, “but I knew the right thing was to own up.” That’s integrity—and it’s also discipleship in action.

Discipleship means choosing to follow Jesus in the small, everyday decisions, even when it costs us something. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23, NIV). Integrity—doing the right thing when no one’s watching—is a powerful way to live that out.

It’s not always popular or easy to live with honesty, kindness, and courage. But discipleship isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being real, faithful, and willing to grow. When you choose integrity, you’re choosing to reflect Jesus. And the best part? He walks with you every step of the way.

WynSpeak Public Speaking Competition

On Tuesday 6 May, GNLC hosted Round 2 of the WynSpeak Public Speaking Competition. The night included a range of speeches from students from different schools, competing in the Senior (Year 10-12) and Junior (Year 7-9) categories. Representing GNLC proudly in the Seniors were Year 12s Kiran Kaur and Gracy Singh, and in the Juniors Year 9 Eveleen Sachdeva, and Year 7s Ruansh Chowdhury and Anhad Singh.

A huge congratulations to Eveleen, who won the Junior short notice speech, where she spoke from the heart about how positive use of social media has deepened her bond with her father. In the Seniors, Gracy Singh not only won the short notice speech, but also won the prepared speech competition with her passionate, memorable and pertinent speech about the rise of misogyny in Victorian schools. Gracy will go on to compete in the finals hosted at Thomas Carr College on Friday 6 June. A shout out to Ms Rutter, Miss Pearce and Mr Cathcart who supported the students!
