Discipleship and the PYP

A disciple is ‘one who follows another for the purpose of learning”. In the context of Good News all our students are disciples as they advance their learning and for many as Christians it is about equipping them as God’s people to love and share the Gospel with others. Layered on this are the attributes of the IB Learner Profile where we aim for our students to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.

In today’s fast paced, information-filled world we want our children to be thinkers who develop the skill to analyse what they are exposed to and exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions. Answering their questions truthfully and age-appropriately; and to see the views of both sides, will assist them to understand, as the IB Mission statement says: that people, with their differences, can also be right.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Good News Lutheran College are excited to be taking part!

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading. It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 5 September 2025. Children from Prep-Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Years 3-6 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier.

This year, the Challenge is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the theme ‘20 years of words and wonder’ and a year of special activities. For details, follow the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge Facebook.

PY Art Club - Mother's Day Lunch Activities

The Primary Years Art captains run an Art Club on Wednesday lunchtimes in the Primary Art room. All students from Prep to Year 6 are welcome to attend and get creative.

Over the past two weeks, the students have enjoyed making Mother’s Day bookmarks, cards and magnets to surprise their mums, grandmothers and mum figures for Mother's Day.
