A Day in May – Remembering Marcus
Thursday 22nd May, 2025 - seeking donations
A Day in May is a special day for Essendon North Primary School, a celebration and commemoration of the life of Marcus Rosin. It is a time when we remember, and a day when we come together to raise much needed funds for childhood cancer research, in particular, The Marcus Rosin Fund.
Marcus Rosin was a student at ENPS from 2011- 2014. His big sister Mia, also an ENPS student, and parents Fabian and Marisa, all very much loved members of our ENPS community. Marcus’ father, Fabian, was also a valued member of our School Council for many years.
Marcus was a character and a fighter, and anyone who knew him, knew of his cheeky smile and magnetic personality. Diagnosed with Ependymoma, a brain tumour, in 2009, at just five years old, Marcus began a fight that would end up being a fight that could not be won. On May 15th 2014, at age nine, while in Year Three at ENPS, Marcus lost his five year battle with cancer. His sister Mia, was in Year Six at the time. It was a day that ENPS truly stopped and our hearts broke for a courageous little boy gone too soon.
As a legacy, we have continued to cherish our relationship with the Rosin family and to honour the memory of Marcus, as a school and community, each year we hold A Day in May for Marcus. We wear a splash of yellow and all donations are forwarded to the Marcus Rosin Fund to support continued childhood cancer research. At the end of each year, we also award the Marcus Rosin Scholarship for instrumental music. This scholarship acknowledges Marcus’ love and passion for playing the drums. You will also notice that our Performing Arts Hall is named in memory of Marcus.
More on Marcus' story and the Marcus Rosin Fund can be found here.
We are asking for your support with some donations to help us prepare for this wonderful event and raise as much money as we can to go towards cancer research, in particular, The Marcus Rosin Fund.
We are seeking donations of cans of coloured or glitter hairspray and bag of lollies. Alternatively, if you prefer to make a cash donation, we can purchase the items needed on your behalf.
Please send any items to the office before the 9th of May.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated and we thank you for your generosity in advance.
Thank you,
The JSC and ENPS Community Engagement Team
