ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Keilor East RSL

Written by Sam, ENPS School Captain (6MP)

On the 25th of April at 5:30am some families, staff and students from ENPS went to the East Keilor RSL dawn service for Anzac Day.

We would firstly like to say a huge thank you to all the students, teachers and families for attending this event. Anzac Day is a day where we recognise and pay our respects to the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand who have fought for our country. This year marked the 110 year anniversary of when our soldiers fought at Gallipoli in Turkey, during World War One.

An important symbol from this event is the poppy flower, which grew in the battlefields in Gallipoli. Now, to remember the soldiers who died in these fields, we wear a red poppy in remembrance.

At the dawn ceremony we laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial on behalf of our school community to show our gratitude and respect. There was a minute silence, poems read, raising of the flags and a soldier who played The Last Post on a bugle.

At Anzac Day (in our family) we also make and eat Anzac biscuits. Anzac biscuits were cookies that were sent over to Turkey for the soldiers from their loved ones. We still like to make and eat them to this day.

Thank you.
