What inspired you to work in education?
I used to own a little café in East Keilor, right across the road from a primary school. We got to know the local families and coffee-keen teachers quite well over the years and felt a real sense of belonging to the local community. In quiet moments during the day, I would glance over at the school and think about my own schooling experiences. I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge with others and thinking creatively, so when the time came to sell the business and consider 'Where to next?' I found myself applying for the Master of Primary Teaching course, and never looked back!
What are you most proud of?
I am proud to have spent my life as a risk-taker. I have had three careers - the first as a Registered nurse, then as a pastry chef and business owner, and now as a primary school teacher. I have made sure to have many, many adventurous solo travels near and far. I love how my life experiences so far have shaped me as a person and feel like these experiences have also shaped me as a teacher.
Do you have any pets?
I have an 11-year-old Jack Russel x Cavalier named Charlie Crumpet, who is the greatest love of my life!
What is your favourite food?
Chocolate-covered digestive biscuits. And Tiramisu!
Tea or coffee?
Always coffee, long black please!
Is there anything you do regularly to promote mental and physical wellbeing?
I am at the boxing gym most days before the sun is up, punching it out, and setting myself up for a great day ahead. I got into boxing a couple of years ago when I was looking for a new way to exercise. I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on both my physical and mental well-being - it is the most mindful and present part of the day!
What is your favourite TV show?
The Great British Bake-off – wholesome serotonin TV where the worst thing that can happen is a dodgy cake!
What are you enjoying most about your role at ENPS?
In Foundation at ENPS, we team-teach, with two classes sharing a larger space. Team teaching was brand new to me this year, and I was pretty nervous about what to expect. I can safely say that I had nothing to worry about - it is so much fun bouncing ideas around with my amazing teaching partner Ainslie McArthur, and working together to create incredible learning experiences for our students.
Are there any new hobbies you’re looking to take up?
As I edge closer to 40, the idea of running a marathon is becoming more and more tempting...
Can you share a joke with us?
How do you make a sausage roll?...... Push it with a fork!
