Last Sunday, our Year Four student Eliza C competed in a dance choreography competition organised by Cecchetti Ballet Australia. For this competition, Eliza had to choreograph and perform her own solo dance, and compete against nine other dancers in her section. While Eliza didn't place on the day, she received an honourable mention and ribbon!! Eliza and her parents were very proud of her efforts, as are we! Well done Eliza!

We asked Eliza about her dancing, and here's what she had to say...

How long have you been dancing?

Since I was five. I started first with ballet, and now I also do jazz and used to do tap.

How were you feeling during the lead-up to last weeks' choreography competition?

Very nervous! But also very excited.

How did you feel after you finished your performance on the day?

I was proud of myself and happy that I went through with it, but nervous about what the judges would think.

What do you think is the best thing about dancing?

The concerts! I like to go on stage and show everyone what I can do. Also, the outfits and stage make-up are really awesome.

Did you have any challenges choreographing your solo routine? How did you work through those challenges?

At first it was really difficult thinking of ideas for my dance and choosing the music. Then I got help from my Mum to get started as she is also a dancer. It was also hard to put myself out there and step outside my comfort zone, so I tried my best to stay calm and focus on remembering my dance routine.

Would you recommend that other students try dancing? Why?

Yeah! It's very fun, there's a lot of options and styles of dancing to try, and it's a very good form of exercise.

Do you have any advice for other students who are working towards their goals?

Do what you love and don't worry about what other people think.

Thanks for sharing with us Eliza, congratulations and best of luck in your dancing journey!
