Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Parents are undoubtedly aware that at Sacred Heart, the children know they come to school “To Have Fun and Learn Stuff”. This is our simple way of stating that the children’s welfare and education are our core business and that they guide all we do here at school.

The children play a very active part in bringing this mission alive daily. They set an example for each other constantly and continue to make me proud of this school every day.  As the parents and carers of these children, I hope they make you proud too.

FOUNDATION ENROLMENTS FOR 2026

I am conscious that this is still relatively early in the year, and parents may not be sure whether a child will start in 2026 or 2027. My advice is always that there is no rush for children to begin. Most children turn six during their Foundation year, and some may already be six on the first day.

Legally, children must have turned five by April 30th in their Foundation year to be enrolled, but this is a minimum and does not reflect the demographics of most Foundation classes.

As always, kindergarten teachers are excellent resources for parents if they have any questions about when their child should start school. If they express any doubt, the wise parent will listen carefully.

Enrolment Applications are due by Friday, June 20th. This will allow us time to finalise, as far as possible, classes for 2026.

NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY (Thursday, May 22nd) This is a great opportunity to consider how our kids get to and from school. We all know the benefits of extra exercise and fewer cars on the road, but I wonder if we have considered the benefits such as self-confidence, self-reliance and independence that come with kids taking responsibility for getting to and from school. Please see further in this newsletter for information about some options that our school is offering to support this day.

ANZAC Day

Well done to our Year 6 leaders and their parents for proudly representing Sacred Heart at the ANZAC Day march. They showed their commitment to leadership by attending the Anzac Day March on a school closure day. We are all very proud of them. Thanks to Anna Melville for organising the wreath and letting the kids know where they need to stand. Here are some photos that show our leaders respectful participation and leadership on such an important day.

Kind regards,

Karl Dwyer
