Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on Term Two so far

Welcome back to Term 2.

We hope that you all enjoyed your Easter holidays and the well-earned break. The term has started very well with a number of whole school events taking place, year level assemblies being held, and excursions organised for students across our school community.

Open Night

Our annual Sunbury College Open Night was held earlier this term; we welcomed over 600 guests to the college to celebrate all that Sunbury College has to offer our students. From interactive experiments run by the Science teachers, to learning more about Japanese culture by colouring Manga and creating origami, families were provided with a range of exciting activities that showcased the learning experiences central to our rich and engaging curriculum.

A huge thank you to all the staff and students who worked so hard to prepare for the night, and meet and greet our prospective Grade 5 and 6 students.

ANZAC Ceremony

Our amazing student leaders led a very moving and heartfelt ceremony to commemorate the 110 year anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops at Gallipoli, Turkey. Our students read poems, sang, and spoke to reflect the contribution that was made by past and present service personnel, from across the country and the world.

We would like to congratulate all students from Years 7-12 for being so respectful and demonstrating our school values. A big thank you to Ms Sarah McRae for assisting our student leaders in the preparation and facilitation of the day.

Shifting to the track - Athletics Carnival

The annual Sunbury College Athletics Carnival is an event eagerly anticipated by students and staff. On Tuesday 6th May, students displayed strong house spirit, participation, and sportsmanship. The day provided an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their athletic talents through various events. In addition to the display of athleticism, the creativity of our Year 12 cohort was displayed through a traditional, themed dress-up competition – which never disappoints!

We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students who have progressed to the next stage in respective events, representing Sunbury College soon.

Uniform

We are pleased to see students taking pride in wearing the Sunbury College uniform correctly and consistently. The uniform represents a shared identity and respect for our learning community. Students are reminded that they must wear either the full academic uniform or the full physical education (PE) uniform on the appropriate days — not a combination of both. As outlined in the policy, white socks only are permitted with both uniforms.

As we head into the colder months, it is helpful to know the variety of jumpers and jackets available as part of the Sunbury College uniform, including the wool blend jumper, soft shell jacket, and bonded jacket with a double internal layer for extra warmth. Please note that visible non-college undergarments are not permitted.

Throughout the year, we have reminded all students about the College's clear expectations. Thank you for your ongoing support in following this school policy.

For full details, please refer to our Student Dress Code Policy.

Uniform items can be purchased from Academy Uniforms, located at:

Mobile Phones

We continue to enforce the College’s mobile phone policy, which aligns with the Department of Education’s guidelines. Phones must be turned off and stored in lockers during school hours, including brunch and lunch time. This policy ensures that learning time is protected and supports positive social interaction between students and staff throughout the day. We appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing this message.

The Importance of Punctuality

At Sunbury College we are committed to preparing students to graduate as responsible and resilient young adults with the key skills required to achieve success. A key part of this focus is on supporting students to consistently demonstrate our values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Endeavour. When students arrive to school and classes on time, with all of their equipment and are ready to learn, they demonstrate their respect for their learning, teachers, and classmates; their responsibility in being partners in their learning; resilience as they develop essential organisation skills; and endeavour as productive students striving for excellence.

We thank you for your support in discussing the importance of punctuality with your children.

E-Scooters

A reminder to the small number of students who are riding E-Scooters to school. Please note that E-Scooter riders must follow these rules as noted in the Vic Roads road rules. Notably, E-Scooter riders:

  • Must be 16 years and older
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Cannot carry a passenger

These rules, along with the rules outlined in the link below are enforced by Victoria Police.

E-scooters in Victoria : VicRoads

Importantly, Sunbury College will

  • Not permit students to ride to and from school on an E-Scooter where they are under the age of 16.
  • Not allow students to ride their E-Scooter within the school grounds. The E-Scooter should be walked to a suitable location outside of the school grounds before riding.
  • Not permit students to charge the batteries for their E-Scooter whilst at school without prior agreement from the College Principal. This is due to the requirement for all electrical devices to be tagged and tested by an electrician.

As with bikes and regular scooters, any damage or loss of equipment is not the responsibility of the school.

Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.
