Year 9 and 10

Middle School

As we move into a crucial assessment period in our 2025 academic year, we want to share our appreciation and congratulations to all students who are striving for and have achieved high Work Habit Ratings and are accomplishing some excellent results in assessment tasks.

The second round of WHR was released earlier this term; it was excellent to see how many Middle School students are excelling and showing consistent endeavour. Keep up the strong work!

We also want to acknowledge the incredible participation from our Middle School students in extracurricular events, excursions, and school sporting teams - especially our recent whole school athletics day. It is always great to see so many students making the most of these opportunities.

Semester 2 will begin for all Year 9 and 10 students on Monday 23rd June, and we encourage them to check their future classes carefully and speak to Coordinators if they have any questions.

Year 9

Term 2 has been a productive one for our Year 9 students, who have already begun taking important steps on their journey toward senior school and beyond. Activities this term have focused on helping students explore their strengths, interests, and future pathways.

Students recently completed their Morrisby career profiling, which offers valuable insights into their individual strengths and possible future directions. Well done to all students for taking this process seriously and engaging with it thoughtfully. These insights will be followed up in the coming weeks with individual course counselling sessions, designed to support students in planning their senior school subject selections. It was also great to accompany a group of Year 9 students on a recent tour of Harvester Technical College. They represented the school beautifully and enjoyed learning more about some of the opportunities that could be available to them in the coming years.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the upcoming Naarm City Experience excursions in Term 3, which promise to be a highlight of the year. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop independence, teamwork skills, and make real-world connections with their learning. If you haven’t yet consented and paid on Compass, there’s still time to do so.

Uniform standards have been strong overall, and we thank families for their continued support. As the weather cools, please remember that undershirt sleeves must be fully covered by a school jumper or jacket, and hoodies are not permitted.

Finally, a reminder to students that the upstairs A Block toilets are reserved for Year 7 and senior students only. Year 9s are asked to continue using the other available facilities throughout the school.

Year 10

The tail end of Term 2 is very busy, especially for Year 10 students. Exams are fast approaching; Year 10 students will commence the exam period in Week 7 (the week starting 2nd June). This will be their first exposure to formal exams and how they are run at Sunbury College. Our expectations follow the school model for the Year 12 VCAA VCE exams.

While we want to acknowledge that this period can be extremely stressful for our students, the undertaking of exams provides great feedback for teachers so they can continue to plan and prepare for students’ learning outcomes, and provide crucial feedback to the students too.

Following the exam period, Year 10s will be undertaking work experience. This is a compulsory two week period for Year 10 students, who have been working since the start of the year trying to organise their placement days. I know there is a real buzz about what students are going to experience while they are out in the workforce; we are looking forward to a wonderful learning opportunity for them and to the workplace visits that staff will conduct.

Warm regards

Middle School Team
