Learning Space 2 Juniors

This week Clinic 3 Maths in the juniors have started learning about length.

We have practiced using a third object like a piece of string to compare the lengths of different object! We even worked out which was longer the height of our drink bottles or the circumference.

Now we have started using informal objects to guess and measure the length of different items.  It has been lots of fun!

🕊 Yarning Circle: Pilgrims of Hope

On a cool Thursday morning, 8 May, GR students gathered for a peaceful Yarning Circle Prayer Session, led by our thoughtful Harish and Leticia.

Although the air was a little chilly, the spirit of the group was warm and reflective. We began in stillness, noticing the world around us and grounding ourselves in God’s presence.

Our Grade 5 & 6 leaders (Alexander and Julian) invited us into prayer and Tyrus led us in singing the hymn “Will You Come and Follow Me,” which reminded us of God’s call to follow with courage and faith on our daily journey.Zoe read from Luke 24:15–16, 30–32, the story of Jesus walking unknowingly beside two disciples.

It reminded us that God is often closest when we least expect it.

We paused to reflect:

  • Where have we seen God walking with us this week?
  • Dominique invited our group to offer prayer intentions and we prayed together for those beginning something new or facing challenges.
  • We finished with a blessing to carry courage, kindness, and hope into the day.
  • This morning’s Yarning Circle reflected our RE theme for Term 2: “As pilgrims of hope, how do our journeys influence and shape our story?”

PARENT HELPERS IN THE LEARNING SPACE – JUNIORS

This term parent helpers in the learning space will commence in Week 4. If you are a Junior parent/carer and would like to offer your time as a parent helper in the morning - anytime between 9:00- 10:45 am - we would love to have you come and join us.

As a parent helper you can offer a half an hour of your time, an hour or stay for the whole morning – it is totally up to you. Unfortunately, younger siblings can not join you if you volunteer your time to help in the learning space.

Parents support in the Juniors by listening to children read, helping run an activity or listening to them share their written stories.

If this is something you would be interested in doing please email Joanna -jforbes@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au with your name, child’s name, learning space and availability (day and time) by Friday 2nd May.

All parents/carers volunteering to help must have a current working with children’s check.

Thank you

Joanna (Learning and Teaching Leader)

SENIOR SPORT

The Paul Wade Cup

Our boys' and girls' soccer teams had the privilege of participating in The Paul Wade Cup held at St John College in Dandenong, which featured a round-robin format. They faced off against other Catholic primary schools in the region. The students displayed commendable sportsmanship, both towards their teammates and their opponents, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We take great pride in all the participants, who relished the opportunity to engage in this event. The weather was favourable for play, and the facilities were accommodating, contributing to an enjoyable atmosphere. Although it was a lengthy day that left the students fatigued, they appreciated the break from their academic routine and demonstrated remarkable maturity.

While they did not advance to the finals, their determination and resilience were evident throughout the competition. We are immensely proud of each student for their performance.

The schools we are playing, dates and locations for these events are as follows:

  • Friday May 16th, Rivergum Primary School - Home Game.
  • Friday May 23rd, St Kevins Primary School - Home Game.
  • Friday June 6th, Coral Park Primary School - Away Game.

  • Tuesday June  17th, Winter Lightning Premiership

Venues for each sport are as follows for Lightning Premiership:

  • Soccer - Livingston Reserve
  • AFL 9’s - Livingston Reserve
  • Netball - Casey Stadium
  • Volleystars - Casey Stadium
  • Teeball - Casey Fields- Oval 3 (behind the Athletics Track)

For away matches and the Lightning Premiership students will travel to and from the venue via chartered bus with staff members attending.

BIKE EDUCATION

The students are gaining confidence when riding their bikes and the road rules around Lynbrook bike pathways and also using Banjo Paterson Bike Pathway.

They are also gaining an understanding of what to anticipate while riding, recognizing the significance of safety, for example, pedestrians, other riders, and cars.  It is crucial for the students to attentively follow instructions from the instructor and each other to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience.

Bike education serves as a means to instil in the students the importance of prioritizing safety above else. Furthermore, engaging in regular activities is crucial, as it contributes to the enhancement of fitness, health and overall well- being.

I will like also like to thank the following parents; Bruntha (Dakshan's mum) and Dulan (Akindu's dad in assisting with the sessions.

We would now like to congratulate Evangeline who has qualified for the next trials that will take place later in May. We wish Evie all the best and will wait eagerly to hear her news.
