4th Sunday of Easter - Year C

🌿 (John 10:27–30) 🌿

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.”

🕊️  "Hearing the Shepherd in a Noisy World"

Imagine standing in a crowded street car honking, people talking, music playing from shops, and your phone buzzing. It’s loud. It's busy. And in the middle of all that noise, someone gently calls your name. You know that voice. It’s your parent, your best friend, or someone you trust. Even though it’s quiet, you hear it because it's familiar and full of love.

That’s what Jesus is talking about in today’s Gospel. He says that his sheep (that’s us) know his voice. We recognise it not because it's the loudest, but because it's the one that brings peace, truth, and love.

But in a noisy world full of distractions social media, pressure, fear, and doubt how do we hear Jesus? How do we know what His voice sounds like?

It starts with listening. Quiet moments in prayer. The stillness after reading Scripture. A feeling of calm when doing what’s right. Jesus doesn’t shout. He speaks in love, in conscience, in kindness and we come to know Him better when we make space to listen.

Jesus also says something powerful: “No one can snatch them out of my hand.” In a world that changes constantly and sometimes feels unsafe or uncertain, Jesus promises to never let go of us. Not when we’re afraid, not when we fail, and not even when we walk away. His grip is steady. His love is permanent.

This Sunday is also known as Good Shepherd Sunday. A shepherd doesn’t just know his sheep he protects them, guides them, and lays down his life for them. That’s Jesus. He knows you. Not just your name, but your heart, your struggles, your gifts. You matter to Him.

🗣️ Discussion Starters:

  • “How do you think Jesus ‘speaks’ to us today? Have you ever felt that He was guiding or comforting you?”
  • “What are some things in your life that make it hard to hear Jesus’ voice?”
  • “Jesus says ‘no one can snatch them out of my hand.’ What does that tell you about how He sees us?”
  • “Who in your life has helped you recognise the voice of Jesus through their example?”
  • “What are small ways we can practice listening for Jesus in our daily lives?”

DISCOVERING MORE ABOUT THE ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

The Mini Vinnies Action Team have started to research the important people in the history of the St Vincent de Paul Society. St Vincent de Paul, who the Society was named after and the lady who helped him St Louise de Marillac as well as the two people who founded the Society, Blessed Frederic Ozanam and Blessed Rosalie Rendu. It’s fantastic that Mini Vinnies now have the opportunity to learn more about the larger group that they belong to.

WINTER APPEAL – FEAST OF THE SACRED HEART

Later this term, on Friday June 27th we will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart. To follow in Jesus’ footsteps, we will be asking SFS families to donate to our Winter Appeal. Items such as non-perishable foods: canned goods, pasta, sugar, flour and toiletries. These items will then be collected by the Hampton Park St Vincent de Paul Conference and distributed to the people within our community experiencing challenges.
