Week 1 & 2 Updates

Performing Arts

Prep students have been learning to recognise the groups of two and three black keys, which helps them locate C, D, and E. They’ve also been experimenting with different sounds and settings on the keyboard and learning how to use them safely.

Grade 1/2 students have been developing their keyboard skills by learning to identify all the white keys on the piano keyboard. Students practiced call and responses on labelled paper keyboards, allowing them to visualise and memorise key positions before moving on to real keyboards. They’ve also had a chance to experiment with different sounds and settings on the keyboard and practice using them safely.

Grades 3-6 students have dived deep into their keyboard lessons. We went back to basics for students to re-familiarise themselves with the keys and stave, and have now started labelling/playing sheet music on paper keyboards. We will then move to the real keyboards where the students will have time to practice their pieces.

Physical Education

Interschool Sport

Interschool Sport will continue on Fridays this term for the 5/6 students selected. If you have any questions with match scheduling please contact Vicky at the front office.

Students will be finishing off Athletics events this term with high jump, sprinting and long distance running left. We then will be starting Netball across all year levels.

Cross Country

District Cross Country was last Friday and the students selected had an amazing day with some amazing results.

We had Allie and Ava from 4A, Claire, Ethan and Xavier 6A and Keiko from 6B made the top 10 in the age division. They will be heading to the next round of competition to hopefully qualify for state selection.

Spanish

What an exciting fortnight in Spanish! Students across all year levels have been building their confidence using Spanish in the classroom. We’ve been singing, playing and engaging in fun activities to learn and practise colours and basic descriptions. From identifying “rojo”, “verde”, and “azul” to describing hair and eye colour, students are beginning to express themselves in Spanish!

We’ve also been checking in on the students' learning, and couldn’t be prouder of their progress! It’s been amazing to see how much they remember and how enthusiastically they participate during our daily routines. ¡Fantástico trabajo a todos!

STEM

It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks in STEM, full of creativity and impressive progress across all year levels!

Our Prep to Grade 2 students have been busy bringing their ideas to life, moving from the planning phase to the exciting stage of building their prototypes. They’ve shown wonderful persistence and imagination, using their plans to guide them as they construct prototypes. We’ve been focusing on improving prototyping techniques, especially making strong joins using tape—an essential skill for young designers!

In Grades 3 to 6, students have been exploring the properties of materials to inform their design decisions. With a sustainability focus, they’re working towards creating board games that are fully biodegradable. It’s been inspiring to see their curiosity and critical thinking as they investigate which materials will best balance durability and environmental impact. Their thoughtful discussions and testing have laid a strong foundation for some very exciting design work ahead.

On a personal note, I’m very excited to share that I’ve been offered a two month secondment with the Department of Education - a fantastic opportunity that I am looking forward to. That said, I will miss being part of our wonderful school community. There are not enough words to describe how proud I am of our students and all they’ve achieved in STEM over the past few years. Sadhbh O’Donovan will be teaching STEM while I am away and I know she will do an amazing job. Please give her a very warm Sunny welcome!

Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to hear about what you have been up to when I am back!

Visual Arts

Welcome to Term 2 in the Art Room!

We’re back and off to a creative start! I hope everyone had a lovely and restful break!

We have  jumped straight into some exciting new projects in Art.

Our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students have been having loads of fun exploring paint in new and exciting ways! They’ve been learning how to blend colours and use special scraping tools to create shapes, patterns and textures. The highlight? They got to use their hands to paint—yes, it got messy, and yes, they LOVED it! They've also been busy designing and drawing their own monsters using oil pastels, creating amazing masterpieces on their painted backdrops. The results are just fantastic!

Our Year 3 to 6 students are continuing their exploration of Pop Art, a bold, colourful style that began in the 1950s and 60s. Pop Art uses everyday images like cartoons, food and celebrities to create fun and eye-catching artworks. We’ve been inspired by the artist Keith Haring, and students have been building on their wonderful work from last term. It’s been fantastic to see the creativity, personality and meaning they are putting into their piece. I’m so proud of what they’re creating!

Can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
