Respectful Relationships and Berry Street
Berry Street Education Model
We use the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) to create a stable, supportive and flexible environment for students. This Model aims to improve students;
Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR)
As educators at Sacred Heart, we promise to treat our students with Unconditional Positive Regards (UPR) - that is, acting with empathy and acceptance towards others and ourselves. Adopting UPR creates positive classroom environments, supports our students to build and maintain trusting relationships, empowering them to engage in learning with confidence and security.
Unconditional positive regard isn’t just a powerful approach for student–teacher relationships—it extends to all interactions within the school community, including students, staff, and parents. By assuming best intentions, we foster mutual respect, even in challenging situations. This mindset helps reframe difficult conversations, making it easier to navigate differences with empathy and understanding. Whether it’s colleagues collaborating, students discussing a topic in class, or parents and staff working through concerns, unconditional positive regard creates a foundation for trust and constructive dialogue. Learn more about UPR here.
Sexuality Education Program
Save the Date Tuesday, May 27 6.00-7.00 pm
This term, we will begin our Sexuality Education Program that will be delivered to students in Years 4, 5, and 6 at Sacred Heart. These sessions will be facilitated by experienced educator Cath McCallig from Sex Ed 4 Schools, who brings a respectful, age-appropriate approach to this important area of learning.
Later in the term, each class will participate in three one-hour sessions, designed to promote healthy understanding and open communication around topics such as human development, relationships, and personal safety.
To help you better understand the content and approach of these sessions, we invite you to attend a parent information session.
