Our Year 10s have had a great week out on Work Experience, with over 200 students partaking in the amazing opportunity. Students worked extremely hard in acquiring their placements, with a range of workplaces including:
We have had some fantastic feedback from employers and are very proud to hear how well our students have taken on challenges and adapted to the workplace environment in such a short time. We look forward to hearing more about our students’ experiences upon their return to school next week.
I spent a productive week at Basco Wholesale gaining valuable work experience. Most of my time was dedicated to kitting. This involved assembling kits with various bearings and then neatly stacking them on the shelves. Throughout the week, my employer, Renee, was incredibly helpful and kind, always willing to answer my questions and provide guidance.

During work experience I assisted a prep class at a Primary School with their learning as well as going on an excursion to Sealife Aquarium. Some of the activities I participated in were helping the students with simple maths and learning new words, observing the teacher help the class and preparing some activities for the students. When the class went to the Aquarium they learnt about many sea creatures and got the chance to look at some of the animals, which they had learnt about in the days leading up to the excursion. This opportunity was an amazing experience to take part in as I got to see the effort teachers put in to activities and classes as well as discover a potential pathway for the future. ~ Maddison Gunn 10C
My first day of work experience at KIOSC consisted of getting to know the workplace and helping the teachers out with teaching and learning how to make LEDs. Within the second day, I was off with my own projects where I had to try out some programs and see how they would work for a class. Working at KIOSC let me undertake many different activities including soldering, coding, setting up VR, making earrings, setting up iPads and laptops, creating activities with Intelino trains, helping with teaching and much more. The work culture at KIOSC has given me more comfort about working in the future. ~ Ritkriti Melam 10A
A reminder that all Year 9s are required to have completed their Morrisby profiling. For any students that are yet to complete it, they will be enrolled in an after-school session on Thursday 30 May in the Pathways Hub. This event will show up on the students’ Compass.
In the coming weeks, students will be able to book their appointment with a Morrisby trained careers consultant. These bookings will be made via Compass Conferences by the student. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the interview with their child. These interviews will be taking place in Weeks 9 & 10 of Term 2.
'Helping our kids navigate their high school careers to prepare for post-secondary or work life is personal to every family. However, how older generations view careers and life will be vastly different from the world of work that Generation Z and future generations will face because of the rapid evolution of tech and AI. How do we help our teens explore, grow and view their careers when we are uncertain about what the future holds?'
Please read the following article - it's a great resource to guide parents/guardians in supporting their children through their career and pathway exploration: In a shifting world of work, how can parents support their teens' career exploration? - CareerWise (ceric.ca)
