Performance is a big element of VCE Music. So every Thursday morning we have performance practice in the Theatre. Every class member gets up and performs the piece/s they are currently working on. These lessons are good at helping us learn how to manage performance nerves, because we perform so often. We are still experimenting with our pieces because we are in the process of perfecting them, so it allows us to be vulnerable in front of an audience and gain confidence in making mistakes and working through them for our real performances. These lessons also allow us to gain a wide variety of feedback from our peers and our teacher. ~ Stephanie Coffey & Emily Gray
Immersing students in the vibrant Theatre scene in Melbourne is one of the highlights of undertaking a Dance, Drama and Music subject at Wantirna.
One Wed 22 May, 101 students and staff gathered at the historic Regent Theatre to watch the touring production of Wicked.
Voices hushed and the lights dimmed as the start of 'No One Mourns The Wicked' boomed throughout the audience. Cut to interval and students were buzzing with excitement with several taking notes for their Theatre classes, and others gushing about the gorgeous lighting and set. Seating for Act 2 with crowd pleasers like the iconic cornfield fight scene and the ever-moving 'For Good', the students were able to reminisce on our 2021 Production of Wicked and the incredible impact the story of undying friendship has on us.
Despite a late finish, everyone was happy to have witnessed this dazzling display of Australian Theatre. Looking forward to the next one!

A number of our students are performing in the annual North East Victoria (NEVR) concert at Hamer Hall next week on Wed 29 May. This year's theme is Sonic Canvas and we have seven Wantirna College Music staff involved.
Today, we held the second NEVR Rehearsal at Wantirna College, with students from several schools attending the ensemble rehearsal and participating in breakout workshops. Here's a glimpse:
This is a great event that showcases the skills and talent of state school Instrumental Music students. Tickets available HERE.
Teachers have been busy preparing and planning for Music Camp. We are looking forward to having all Music students together for intensive rehearsals and workshops as we kick off preparations for Gala Concert in Term 3.
Music Camp is also a great way for students to build their connections with others - especially through the fun activities and games!
Please read the attached Packing list and pack warm!
