On Tuesday 21 May, 62 eager Wantirna College students travelled to Kings Park Reserve for the Knox Division Cross Country. Our runners had great weather and faced fantastic competition from local schools.
The top 15 in each race progress to the next round, the EMR championships, which will be held at Yarra Glen Racecourse on Thursday 12 June.
A massive congratulations to all competitors for their efforts and behaviour on the day. We had 4 individual event winners, with Dhiren Shanker, Jayvel Singh, Holly Makaay and Lance Dopper all winning their respective events.
Below are the detailed results of each event:
17-20 Year Boys: Dhiren Shanker (1st), Angus Jackson (4th), Jackson Peters (5th) and Juan Sulit (7th). Dhiren won in a time of 20 minutes 29 seconds for the 5km race.
17-20 Year Girls: Maggie Zhang (2nd) in a small field of just 2 competitors.
16 Year Boys: Jayvel Singh (1st), Ryder Thomson (3rd), Junior Sukaliana (10th). Jayvel won in a time of 19 minutes and 44 seconds for the 5km race, going sub 4min/km to take out the win.
16 Year Girls: Holly Makaay (1st), absolutely dominated the small field of 4 girls, winning by over 4 minutes to the next competitor! She ran 13 minutes 31 seconds in her salute to victory.
15 Year Boys: Charlie Armstrong (7th), Kyan Douglas (10th) both progressed through, with Jake Brown (17th) just missing out.
15 Year Girls: No entries due to city experience.
14 Year Boys: Lance Dopper (1st), Marco Ponente (2nd), Benjamin Bonica (5th), Sam Davies (6th), Andrew McFadden (8th), Pritam Kara (10th), Drew Morris (11th) and Ayden Yusuf (14th) all made it through. Lance beating Marco by three seconds to win in 12 minutes and 52 seconds which made an exciting race. Other results were Mitch Merry (19th), Jack Newton (20th), Tyler Walker (25th), Harvey Waddington (35th) and Jiah Cosgrave (36th).
14 Year Girls: Keira Moroney (3rd), Isa Woods (6th), Winnie McPherson (9th), Ashley Thomas (10th), Milli Anderson (11th), Addison Chapman (12th) and Isabelle Tokhi (14th) all made it through. With Wantirna filling up 7 out of 15 spots! Other results were Laila Firth (16th) and Leila Sandhu (19th) just missing out.
13 Year Boys: Harry Heaton (9th) and Alexander Kokovitis (14th) were the only 2 boys to make it through in an ultra-competitive race which had 53 entiries! Just missing out were Bowie McDonald (16th) and Ethan Moroney (17th) by under 10 seconds! Other results were Luka Baron (22nd), Ben Macdonald (23rd), Max Moore (24th), Nate Leitch (29th), Ethan Nuttall (32nd) Ezrah Yates (33rd), Hakan Ayas (34th), Hari Thiruganasabanthan (35th), Aaron Brown (37th) and Cooper Charles (41st).
13 Year Girls: The 13 Year Girls dominated the field! We had 9 out of 15 students make it into the tope 15. Well done to Alanah Stockdale (3rd), Sami Waddell (4th), Georgia Zabilowicz (5th), Tayla Britten (7th), Soraya Pjetraj (8th), Sophie Weeks (11th), Shanay Palmer (12th), Ivy McPherson (13th), and Ebony Duke (14th) all making it through. April James (18th), Eva Ryan (20th) and Hannah Bell (24th) and Indira Martini (34th) missed out in a field of 37 students!
