We're following the Gleams!
It has been a BIG few weeks in the 3/4 Learning Community, big projects, building maths strategies and who can forget the Melbourne Zoo Excursion!
Literacy
In Reading, the students have been learning about non-fiction texts. We also have been learning about non-fiction text features such as fact vs opinion, and critiquing. And in this time of reading the students do regular spelling practise each day of the week. In Writing the students have been working on non-fiction texts like our most recent project on our chosen endangered animal. We have chosen our own ways to publish our information. The students by the end of the term have to show their work at a 'Conservation Expo' about ways to save their chosen animal. That is the 3/4 Literacy update, thanks for reading.

Inquiry
In Inquiry, students have been making trading cards in groups of 2-3 people of their threatened animals. The animals are Baw Baw Frog, Mallee Emu-Wren, Grassland Earless Dragon, Eastern Barred Bandicoot, and The Golden-rayed Blue Butterfly. We are starting to do our conservation poster too. These animals were specifically picked by the Melbourne Zoo. We also went to the zoo and saw the Baw Baw Frog and the Grassland Earless Dragon which were both amazing to see and were very fascinating. On Thursday 27th of June parents are allowed to come in and see their child's work on display at the Conservation Expo- doors open at 2:15pm and we start packing up at 3:15pm. We hope to see you there!

The Zoo Excursion
The 3/4s have been to the Melbourne Zoo to look at the endangered species which we have been studying. We spent the whole day at the zoo looking at the amazing animals. We got to the zoo by bus then we each had a parent helper to guide us around the zoo, we listened to keep talks and got to read about the animals too. 3/4 E and 3/4C went together on Tuesday then 3/4A, 3/4B and 3/4D all went together to the zoo on Thursday. We all had a great time!
A special thanks to our parent helpers who made the day easier and fun! We appreciate you!

Maths
In numeracy we have been learning about multiplication and division. Some strategies we have been doing in multiplication are:
-partitioning
-groups of
-grid method
-vertical algorithm
-arrays
-fact families
-number line
Partitioning is when you do this 24x3=
/\ |
20 4 3
In division we have been doing the same strategies but backwards
-Chunking
-Bus stop
-Partitioning
-Shared between
-Repeated subtraction
We have begun our unit on time! We will be doing lots of clock work and problem solving.
