Assistant Principals' Report

Dear HPS Community,

National Volunteers Week - 20th-26th May

National Volunteers Week is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering. The week provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of volunteers amongst the community. At HPS, we take this opportunity to thank our numerous parent helpers and volunteers amongst our school community. We encourage you to get out amongst the community and assist in any way you can in any walk of life. Thank you volunteers!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday this week, HPS participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime. Every year, an Australian written/illustrated picture book is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, preschools, childcare centres, family homes, book stores and many other places around the country. Welcome to HPS - Occero Fuller

We're delighted to welcome Occero Fuller to HPS as he completes his placement for a Masters of Social Work at the University of Melbourne. He will be with us through until August completing 500 hours of placement. Please read below for some more on Occero!

I’m Occero Fuller from the island of Jamaica, which has given birth to reggae legend Bob Marley and the fastest man alive Usain Bolt.

Occero embarked on his academic journey in Melbourne four years ago, when he was awarded a scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Psychological Science at La Trobe University. His time at La Trobe was marked by fantastic learning experiences, where he engaged with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and received guidance from some of the nation's top academics. Immersing himself in the history and culture of Australia further enriched his educational pursuit.

With diligence and determination, Occero graduated with first-class honours from his bachelor's program. Encouraged by his academic success, he secured another prestigious scholarship to pursue a Master of Social Work at the esteemed University of Melbourne. Throughout his tenure at Melbourne University, Occero has continued to thrive, benefiting from the mentorship of leading scholars in the field of social work.

Occero is currently undertaking a crucial placement at Heidelberg Primary School (H.P.S.) as a student social worker.

His decision to select H.P.S. for his placement was driven by the school's reputation for unwavering commitment and compassion towards its students. Occero is thrilled to be part of the H.P.S. community, recognizing the dedication of the teachers and staff who consistently prioritize the well-being and educational growth of every student.

In his role as a student social worker, Occero aims to contribute his skills and knowledge to the H.P.S. community while also learning from the school's rich and supportive environment. He is eager to collaborate with the school community, fostering a nurturing atmosphere where every student's lived experience is valued and cherished. Through his dedication and passion for social work, Occero aspires to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students at Heidelberg Primary School.
