The Science Experience Sponsored by Rotary

The Rotary Club in Mordialloc is offering to sponsor 4 students in years 9-10 to attend a Science experience for 1-3 days for part or all of the cost.

RMIT University, Melbourne 2–4 July 2024

(3 day program)

Year 9 and 10 students will engage in a 3-day program and will work within teams to collaborate, learn and solve real-world problems using STEM principles. Workshops will be across a range of disciplines such as: Space science, Technology, Biomedical science, Food science, Allied health sciences, Engineering. Students will have the opportunity over the three days to interact with academics, RMIT staff and current students. Teams will be led by our Women in STEM Ambassadors which will provide further opportunities for students to ask questions about university life and what a STEM career path might look like. The RMIT University Science Experience will engage, build curiosity and inspire the next generation of STEM superstars to explore career paths in STEM, make like-minded new friends, and see what University is all about in a supportive and safe environment.

 

KIOSC, Wantirna19 September 2024

(1 day program)

Forensic Science: In order to solve a case homicide case, students investigate the evidence that could lead to a conclusion. Students examine physical evidence from the crimescene, such as fingerprints and crime scene virtual reality (VR) photos.They interview suspects and identify their whereabouts on the day in question.This includes: VR 360 crime scene photos, fingerprint recovery, suspectinterviews and alibi research. Biometrics – This entails electrophoresis, blood typing, polygraph, fingerprinting and more. 

 

University of Melbourne, Dookie 27–29 November 2024

(3 day program)

Dookie campus is a working farm – a centre of agricultural research and teaching. You will join scientists and agricultural student mentors in hands on activities in the laboratory and paddock investigating real world issues. Activities include biodiversity, sheep science, plant science, protein content of milk, cheese making and robotic dairy. Accommodation is available, if required, at an extra cost.  

 

University of Melbourne, Parkville 20–22 January 2025

(3 day program)

Students will get to experience university life with lectures, laboratory experiments and hands-on experiences run by our top researchers and scientists, all whilst exploring our world-class facilities. Exploring the secrets of the universe with the physics show. Extracting DNA from strawberries and examining the science of inheritance. Studyingancient fossils and minerals in an introduction to Earth Sciences. Discovering how and why our weather systems form. Testing what chemicals go bang and why? Taste testing indigenous foods and exploring ways they can solve the world’s food crisis. Exploring how mathematics plays key roles in our lives but hides right under our noses. Touring the Harry Brooks Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology Discovering the intersection of art and science at the Science Gallery.
