Music Camp 2024

Music Versatility and Talents Showcase at the Annual Music Camp

The music camp this year has been vibrant and colourful in tone and talents.  Students couldn’t wait to unload the truck to start making music.

Only ensemble students were participated in the camp.  Students from the Choir, Contemporary Band, Concert Band, Strings ensemble, Guitar & Bass ensemble and Liturgical Music band have enjoyed rehearsing and making music alongside peers under mentorship of Nazareth instrumental and classroom teachers.

There was a versatile repertoire from classical to popular music, movie themes, ABBA, Jackson 5 and many more.  The campsite and its surroundings were filled with pleasant sounds and tones of diverse musical instruments.

The day started with intensive rehearsals and workshops refining existing material and learning on new music.  Most groups were keen to tackle new music.  It was a productive camp as all the new repertoire learned was performed Friday afternoon.

There was a night-time concert and games organised by the senior students of Years 10 to 12.

I admit the musical chairs game was very competitive with a Year 12 student winning the competition.

Music camp is always an opportunity to welcome the 7s and farewell the 12s and students leaving the College.

It was an emotional camp this year as the Guitar & Bass Ensemble farewell a Year 9 who had been with the group since Year 7s.  The camp members welcomed a former Nazareth student, now a Nazareth Staff member, who decided to performed an ABBA duet with a current Year 11 student.  A performance that moved the entire room, including staff, as the pair deliver an energetic performance.

The College will be hosting a two hour Soiree on Thursday 6 June at 6.00 pm.  This will be a great opportunity for all the ensemble to showcase what had been learned in the past semester.

I was delighted to see students enjoying the company of their peers, playing Gaga pit, jamming together, competing at table tennis, volleyball and table soccer.  It was always fun to work with the musicians, especially the Guitar & Bass ensembles who learned an entire new piece from top to bottom in a day.

The whole Performing Arts teaching staff are grateful for the opportunity to mentor you on this year’s camp and patiently anticipate working with you again in 2025.

I look forward to sharing your musical growth with your parents and the whole Nazareth community next week.
