Wear It Yellow Day

Last Friday students participated in 'Wear it Yellow Day', where students learnt about our shared history and celebrated First Nations Culture.

Students participated in variety of activities throughout the day including..... with the day concluding with our fortnightly 1/2 game, where Mr Smith taught the students some First Nations games.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Incursion & Making Magic Seed Pots

On Tuesday students had the opportunity to participate in an Incursion run by the City of Greater Bendigo. This incursion is linked to our topic of Sustainability and students learnt about the importance of sorting our waste into the correct bins. We thank the council for visiting us and supporting our learning about reducing, reusing and recycling.

Last week students also made their own 'Magic seed pots' and planted a snap pea seed to hopefully watch the process of growing a seed, understanding the nature of decomposition with newspaper pots and the sustainable nature of growing your own vegetables.

Learning in Week 9 and 10

Reading, Writing and Spelling: We will read the books 'Flood' and 'Banjo and Ruby Red'. Our sound is 'oo' (as in boot) and we will begin revising the sounds covered so far this term. In Writing students will be focusing on using the correct boundary punctuation and students beginning to explore using other types of punctuation such as exclamation and question marks.

Mathematics: In Mathematics students will be building their fluency with number facts. They will work on a number of problem solving activities including a vehicle problem 'How many wheels are there if there are ... vehicles? If 5 is the difference between two numbers - what might the numbers be? Throughout these experiences they will be developing their ability to reason, explain their thinking and the strategies used.

Topic: During topic lessons students will be looking at being 'Resource Rangers' by exploring natural resources which might be being wasted around our school, they will complete a survey, look at the data and decide on an issue their class would like to fix. In week 10 students will look at Bees and they way they contribute to our environment and it's sustainability.
