Principal's Report

Dear Rockhampton North Special School Community,

I’m thrilled to share some fantastic news about our students' achievements in reading. A quarter of our students have moved up one or two levels on the Literacy Continuum. This is a huge accomplishment and reflects the hard work and dedication of our students and the support of our amazing staff.

A special thanks goes out to all our teachers and staff who participate in regular training and peer observation sessions. Your commitment to improving your teaching strategies is making a real difference in our students’ educational journey. I also want to highlight the phenomenal work of our phonics team, led by Kate, and our school speech pathologist, whose expertise has been instrumental in our students' progress.

We are also proud to announce that five of our staff members have been selected to attend community of practice workshops specifically designed for reading in special schools. These workshops are a great opportunity for our team to learn new techniques and bring fresh ideas back to our school, benefiting all our students.

Our school culture continues to grow stronger and more positive, as evidenced by our record number of 87 staff bucket fillers. This initiative rewards acts of kindness, helping, and making a positive impact in our school, and seeing so many participate is truly inspiring.

This week, we will be saying farewell to Jayme, who has been a key figure in setting up our Waterlily Café. Jayme’s hard work has not only provided a wonderful resource for our community but has also helped create valuable work experience opportunities for our students. As Jayme moves on, the café will continue to operate, providing experience in workplace skills and hospitality under our VET program. Please remember to place your orders by 9:00 AM, as the café is open until the first break.

For any parents interested in ensuring a seamless communication experience for your child, both at home and at school, please reach out. Aligning your child’s home communication system with the school devices can significantly enhance their learning and interaction.

Lastly, as we head into the next two weeks, I hope you all enjoy the lovely, albeit a bit chilly, weather. It’s a great time to enjoy some outdoor fun, just be sure to bundle up!

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our students, helping them to achieve their best and feel valued every step of the way.

Warm regards,

Dehlia Dawson
