Director Learning and Teaching

 - Mrs Anna Robertson

Earlier in the term, I spoke in the newsletter about the role that parents and families have as the first teachers of their children. As many families celebrated Mother’s Day last weekend, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to ask students to reflect on some of the things that their mother, grandmother, aunty, or other special women in their lives had taught them. I spoke with some of the leaders of our two campuses, Year 6 students and Year 12 students, and here is what they shared with me:

Year 6

  • My mum taught me how to cook meringues. - Poppy Edgar
  • My mum taught me how to cook cakes and muffins. - Hugo Toma
  • My mum taught me how to use the TV. - Archie Aitken
  • My mum taught me how to separate the egg white and egg yolks. - Aida O’Brien
  • My mum taught me how to run. - Max Cameron
  • My mum taught me how to garden. - Mi-Ha Kim
  • My mum taught me how to shoot a bow and arrow. - Abel Gaussen

Year 12

  • My mum taught me a lot about cooking. - Hannah Neal
  • My mum taught me how to parallel park. - Charlie Mahar
  • My mum taught me how to cook a chocolate cake. - Libby Diprose
  • My mum taught me how to knit. Monet Graham
  • My mum taught me Biology. - Cooper Bonnett
  • My mum taught me how to cook. - Hannah Croft

While of course we focus at school on academic and social learning, it is important to pause and celebrate these vital life lessons, and the way in which we prepare our children for a happy and purposeful life. These are special moments of learning that also build relationships and connections within our families. These are, of course, only a snapshot of the many things that the important women in our students’ lives do, so thank you to you all.
