School Council News
As we approach the midpoint of Term 2, I am excited to share some of the wonderful events and activities that have taken place at our school, as well as highlight some important upcoming dates.
Recent Events:
Students actively participated in various interschool sports and cross-country events, demonstrating talent and sportsmanship. We congratulate all participants for their tremendous effort, their hard work and dedication throughout these events are commendable.
The Year 9 students delivered a captivating music concert, showcasing their hard work and dedication in fantastic performances enjoyed by all.
This year's Year 10 Business Entrepreneurship Market Day was a huge success! Vendors displayed their products and offered tasty treats to both students and staff with many stalls completely selling out! The proceeds will be used to fund new lockers and drink taps for the college. We extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
Reconciliation Week prompts reflection on our shared history and ways to foster unity in Australia. The theme NOW MORE THAN EVER; urges active support for reconciliation in daily life. Chelt.Sec's Reconciliation Week began with a Flag Raising Ceremony, including a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, at theDerrimut Weelam Gathering Place. Jade F., our Indigenous Leader, and students took part in the Smoking Ceremony and heard speeches from Uncle Shane and Kingston Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns. The students have also participated in lunchtime activities such as Indigenous colouring and Dreamtime stories.
Yesterday, the SRC raised over $600 for their World Environment Day free dress day which will go to Environment Victoria. Thank you to those who gave their gold coin donation.
The School Council supports the SRC with free dress days; these events are a fun break from the usual uniform and show our sense of community. Chelt.Sec is committed to supporting local community groups through initiatives such as free dress days; however, these special events can only remain if we have your support. On free dress days, please ensure you bring along your gold coin donation – it makes a big difference in supporting our community and ensures that free dress days can continue.
Upcoming events:
Year 10 Families - 2025 Year 11 Parent Information Evening
We are excited to welcome Year 10 families to the 'Welcome to Senior School'; Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 19th June, from 6.00 to 6.45pm in the College Auditorium. This session will provide valuable information about VCE, VCE VM, and pathways, as well as details about the Year 11 Phillip Island Camp.
Our VCE VM students will embark on work placements starting 3rd June. This is an invaluable opportunity for them to gain practical experience and insights into their chosen career paths. We wish them all the best as they navigate this important step in their education.
Exams for Years 8-10 will commence on 4th June. Students are encouraged to make use of the resources and support available to them as they prepare. Good luck to all students during this exam period!
As always, thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. Let's continue to work together to create a positive and enriching environment for our students.
Support our school
We believe in the value of government education for its core principles of diversity, quality of teaching and learning, and peer group interactions. Your assistance helps our school thrive, providing resources for the education our children deserve, teacher support, and professional development. To support our school, consider making voluntary contributions. Like all government schools, Cheltenham Secondary College has a limited budget, and your contributions help bridge the gap, providing resources to enhance education delivery such as specialised equipment, additional learning resources, buildings, and grounds. If you are able to contribute, please consider helping, as it makes a huge difference.
