Supporting Our Students

We’ve reached the halfway mark of another busy term, and some wonderful teaching and learning continues here at Oatlands.

Our Respectful Relationships focus this term sees our students engaged in activities related to the topics:

Positive Coping: Students develop language around coping, reflect on their coping strategies and extend their repertoire of positive coping strategies.

Problem-solving: Students learn a range of problem-solving techniques that can be applied when confronting personal and social dilemmas. They engage in learning tasks where they apply their problem-solving skills in realistic situations.

Activities are designed to develop social, emotional and positive relationship skills, while building resilience and confidence.

Our classrooms provide many opportunities for our students to develop great relationships with others while building confidence in themselves:

Morning Meetings promote emotional awareness, establish trust, foster a sense of connection and encourage teamwork which enables the school day to begin positively.

Circle Time activities allow students to share their thoughts and ideas while learning respect for others’ opinions and understanding the need for rules.

Practising gratitude encourages positive emotions and increases self-esteem.

Mindfulness activities allows students to slow things down and observe their thoughts and feelings which has a more positive effect on behaviour.

It’s a real treat when visiting classrooms to see our students focussed and engaged in their learning, able to articulate what their learning and why they’re learning it.
