Leadership

We have completed hump week of Term 2! All of our teachers have been working on your children’s reports and have been really happy with the progress many students have already made this year. I just want to thank all the teachers for their hard work not only in the classrooms this year, but for the many hours that school reports take. While very rewarding for a teacher to see their students progress, it also means a lot of late nights checking, re-checking, re-writing etc. So thank you to our teachers, your hard work is very much appreciated!

I would also like to thank Jose, Angelica & Lisa for running intervention classes Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. It’s another example of our teachers going over and above to support our students.

The Gates of Newlands

The school has had some questions recently about how they can enter Newlands. We are confirming there are three options to get into school. There are the two entrances on Murphy Street – the original entrance to the school and the gate between the two Learning Worlds. The gate that leads to our front office will also be open and will be the only entrance available between 9:30 – 3:00.

The large double gate entrance is always locked and a reminder to families to not use the staff car park between 8:00 and 4:30.

Foundation Sibling Enrolments

This is a final reminder to families whom have siblings to please send through their child’s 2025 enrolment. Please download the form at the following address (https://newlandsps.vic.edu.au/starting-at-nps/#enrolmentform) and hand it in to our admin staff as soon as possible.

Sorry Day

Newlands Primary School is dedicated to educating our students of our history. Sorry day is a day of remembrance and reflection dedicated to acknowledging the historical mistreatment and injustices suffered by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, particularly the Stolen Generations. The teachers have led discussion and or learning experiences to provide our students a deeper understanding of the importance of the day.

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week at Newlands is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. I want to thank Sonya and Simon for providing our staff a plethora of resources to support the learning next week.

Sickness

We have noticed an increase in student absences the last two weeks to sickness. We want to thank families for keeping their children home when they are unwell and encourage families to keep their children at home when they are sick. While we appreciate the importance of coming to school, some of the students need to stay in bed with eucalyptus oil under their noses.

Colour Run

The school has raised over 14 000 dollars so far. Personally, I think it was worth it just for Claire’s amazing and informative video. We hope you come along for the Colour Run between 12:00 – 2:00 next Friday! It is going to be a day full of former white t shirts and colour.

Have a fantastic weekend, Luke
