What an exciting few weeks it has been at Park Ridge. With plenty of sports events happening, it has been all systems go with Interschool Sport!
Knox Division Girls Football Gala Day
The Division Girls footy day was Thursday 23 May at Kings Park. 19 schools entered teams in 2024 and with appearances from Hawthorn AFLW players as well as the annual Longest Kick comp and Grand Final sprint, the day provided a real carnival atmosphere. By the lunch break, we had won our pool and made the quarter finals where we beat Waverley Christian College by 2 points. We then faced Templeton in the semi final where we were able to get an early lead by scoring the first 2 behinds of the match. From there we weathered the storm and defended hard to keep Templeton to 1 behind which meant we were into the grand final off a 1 point win. It was another low scoring affair in the grand final vs The Basin and in the end we finished the day Runner up, going down I the grand final 4 behinds to 1 behind. I was extra proud of our girls, 6 of which play footy outside school, when the PE teacher at The Basin told me that 18 of his team play footy outside school. If any girls are thinking of signing up for the rest of the 2024 season, it’s not too late to enquire with Rowville Hawks!
Division Cross Country
Last Friday was the Knox Division Cross Country Carnival. Park Ridge had 8 runners compete on the day which is an outstanding achievement in itself to make it through to this round of competition. All students should be extremely proud of their efforts for not only their performance on the day but also their positive mindset to give their personal best. Congratulations to all students and good luck to those who finished in the top 12 and have qualified for the Regional Championships on June 13 at Yarra Valley Racecourse.
Winter Round Robin
Over the last two Fridays, our Year 5 and 6 students have been competing in the Rowville District Winter Round Robin. Students have been training in their teams since term 1 and were raring to go as the days finally came around. As always, I was super proud of our students ability to show sportsmanship and respect to their team mates, the opposition and the officials of each sport. I’d also like to thank the parent helpers who volunteered with performing such roles as coaches, umpires, goal umpires, scorers and supporters. Congratulations to our Boys Footy team and Girls Soccer team who have both progressed to the Division finals after finishing Runners Up on the day.
