Make 10 Game

I want to share one of my favourite maths games with you. This game can be adjusted to suit most age groups and can be used with an individual child or a number of children. This game teaches number bonding. A number bond is a pair of numbers that always add together to make another, larger, number. We introduce this concept through number bonds to 10:

0 + 10 = 10                                          4 + 6 = 10                                             8 + 2 = 10

1 +   9 = 10                                          5 + 5 = 10                                             9 + 1 = 10

2 +   8 = 10                                          6 + 4 = 10                                            10 + 0 = 10

3 +   7 = 10                                          7 + 3 = 10

If children can quickly recall their number bonds to 10, they will be able to apply this knowledge to more complex addition/subtraction problems.
