Hero for HeartKids:

Dress up Day and gold coin donation Friday 14th June. HeartKids is the only national non-profit organisation solely focused on supporting and advocating for all people impacted by childhood heart disease, one of the largest causes of infant death in Australia. The JSC jumped at the chance to support this amazing charity, as it is near and dear to our families and us here at AGPS.

Details:

  • Students come dressed as their favourite super hero or in a ‘splash’ of red on Friday 14th June.
  • Bring a gold coin donation, and all money will be given to the HeartKids Foundation

Coffee Cup Recycling:

Hi AGPS! I am here to talk about a way that we can help save our environment. It is estimated that over 1 billion cups end up in landfill each year, that’s a lot of cups that go to waste. We have joined the 7/11 #Cup Rescue initiative and think it’s a great way we can be more environmentally friendly. Located just outside Cam’s office, is a disposal unit where you can place your used ‘take away’ coffee cups and lids. It’s free, accessible and good for the environment, because the cups are upcycled and turned into reusable coffee cups, recycled road surfaces, garden bed edging and even wheel stops. So, teachers and families start putting your recyclable coffee cups in the right place to help our planet thrive! Thanks for listening!  - From Rosie Grade 5 (JSC)

Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme

As many of you are aware, you can collect and donate your used cans and bottles to be recycled at one of Victoria’s collection points. Our school has been registered and when using the app, you can donate the money from your cans and bottles to our school. You need to search and select our school via the app. The JSC will seek ideas and suggestions from the school body on what we could put the money towards.

Don’t Bin it, Return it!

The JSC gratefully received a terrific idea on what we could do with our used whiteboard markers! It was suggested that we DON’T throw our markers in the bin, rather we collect all used markers and the JSC will return them to Office Works where the markers will be recycled. We have informed our school body and have started collecting the markers this term in every classroom.
