Assistant Principals' Report

Hello everyone and welcome to our newsletter article,
School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
This week, we’ve kicked off our whole school reward initiative to support our work with SWPBS and celebrate positive behaviour.
Students earn Dojo points when they demonstrate our school values of respect, responsibility, compassion, and resilience. These points help us recognise and reinforce the behaviours we want to see across our school community.
We recently asked students to vote on a reward they’d love to work towards—and the clear favourite was a popcorn and movie afternoon at school!
Once we reach a collective total of 20,000 Dojo points, all students will enjoy this exciting reward.
Our Week 1 total is already at 1,977 points—great start, everyone!
School values
RESPECT | RESPONSIBILITY | COMPASSION | RESILIENCE
Year 6 students, Audrey, Lyla, Hunter, Cooper and Oliver from Room 4 shared their thoughts on the school value of compassion.
Please see their ideas below:
What does compassion mean to students and staff at Heidelberg Primary School?
Being compassionate means being kind to ourselves, others and our environment. It is showing empathy by stepping in someone else’s shoes and considering things from different perspectives. We show care and understanding for others and give each other support and help, especially when we know someone needs a little extra care and kindness. Compassion means working together, along with acknowledging and celebrating our differences.
Why do we value compassion at Heidelberg Primary School?
We value compassion because we know it is good for our health and wellbeing and the health and wellbeing of others; when we feel positive and connected, we do our best learning. Showing compassion to others makes us and others feel happy and helps us to regulate our feelings. We want Heidelberg Primary School to be a place where everyone feels safe, a sense of belonging and value. Our hope is for all HPS students, staff and community members to know we care about them and respect them. When we all show compassion, it creates a supportive, positive and encouraging learning environment. We have noticed that compassion is contagious…the more you show compassion to yourself and others, the more compassion you have to share, and the more compassion others show!
