VCE VM Community of Practice Conference
Ms Kami Gillick-Lewis
On June 4th, Greensborough College hosted the VCAA run VCE VM Community of Practice Face-to-Face Conference for VM teachers in the North-Eastern region to collaborate on curriculum and the delivery of the VCE VM Certificate.
With guest speaker Ralph Barba presenting innovative ideas around radio in schools he highlighted the importance of celebrating student voice. Greensborough Colleges own Mrs Heather Dear presented a detailed overview of integrated VM curriculum that sees Literacy/WRS/Numeracy and PDS key skills and knowledge integrated into the cooking classroom to ensure the applied learning principles are enacted.
A shining pillar of strength on the day was the Year 11 and 12 all-female VCE VM student panel comprised of students: Amber Stewart, Molly Adgemis, Taya McMaster-Smith and Kaitlyn Dearing. These students conducted a 30 minute student voice Q&A session whereby they answered a myriad of complex questions related to their own experiences in the VM program. A special thank you to Kaitlyn Dearing for leading the presentations on the day- what exceptional public speaking skills our Year 12 VM students have.
The event saw leaders of VM from colleges around the region collaborate over curriculum design, share ideas for excursions and assessments and also forge future partnerships with local secondary schools and their VM students.
Thank you to the student panel, Mrs Heather Dear and the leadership team at Greensborough College for helping host an outstanding VM community of practice day. Thank you to the VM year 12 class and Mrs Dear for the wonderful catering!
