RSPCA Excursion
The Year 9 Plants and Animals class visited the RSPCA to learn about animal welfare issues. The students had a fantastic time meeting many of the animals at the Burwood facility and finding out about choices they can make to ensure farm animals are being treated more ethically – such as choosing to buy sow-stall free pork and RSPCA approved chicken and eggs. Although still being used for food, these animals have a better quality of life, such as being given the freedom to behave in a natural way. An example of this are chickens that are free ranging and allowed to display behaviours such as dust bathing, flapping their wings and scratching for food.
The students were also able to tour the dog and cat adoption facility, and they all found at least one resident that they wanted to take home.
Space Excursion
In May, our Year 9 Physics and Astronomy students took an exciting journey to the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) for the Mission to Mars excursion. The day was packed with hands-on learning as students suited up in astronaut gear and “landed” on Mars to collect geological samples. Back in the lab, they analysed their findings using specialised scientific instruments—just like real space scientists!
It was an unforgettable experience that brought science to life and sparked curiosity about space exploration.
