Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Over the last week I have been reading our students Mid-Year Reports. I am delighted to see the development in their learning and in particular the way they have applied themselves to their tasks. We have a very enthusiastic group of students here and they should be pleased with the progress they have made so far this year.  Reports will be accessible via the nForma App on Friday 4th July. Please check you have downloaded the App and can log in. If you require a paper copy of your child's report, please email Nicole Russell at nrussell@cohroakeast.catholic.edu.au to request this.

I wish to thank our teachers for the enormous amount of their own time and effort they have put into providing an accurate and meaningful report for each of their students.  These reports provide a truthful picture of student performance and achievement for the first semester of 2025.

Please read the reports and celebrate your child’s achievements. In areas where more improvement may be made, please be encouraging as this will bring about a more positive outcome.

The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul

The Gospel this coming Sunday deals with the issue of how the community of believers will continue after Jesus is no longer with them as we celebrate Saints Peter and Paul.

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said, ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said, ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’ (Matthew 16:13–19)

In the Bible, when God changes someone’s name it is usually because they are being given a new mission. Both Peter and Paul had their names changed. Simon became Peter, and Saul became Paul.

Peter and his successors, Pope Leo XIV, all the Bishops and Priests are the ones to whom God has given the care of his people. The Pope and Bishops carry a shepherd’s crook as a symbol of their role in looking after the community of believers.

Our Challenge:

  • This week let us reflect on the question Jesus asks of Peter: “Who do you say I am?”
  • To belong to the Church is to belong to the Lord. No powers, human or spiritual, can tear us away from him. How can we encourage others this week to have faith in God?

Year 4 camp

Our Year 4 students experienced camp for the first time last week. They had a fantastic time and challenged themselves to take on all of the opportunities presented to them.

Italian Day

Italian Day is on Monday 30th June. We are preparing for a great day with lots of activities and delicious food. The Parent Association is kindly donating the pizza and gelati for this event. A huge thank you to Tarantino Pizza for providing the pizza and Naturalis Gelato for supplying the gelato. Please return your forms asap if you haven't already and read the Italian News page of this newsletter for more information about the day.

School Disco

Don't forget our school disco is on tomorrow night. There is a buzz in the air and you can tell the students are very excited. I have been counting down the sleeps until the disco with lots of students. The disco will start at 6:30pm and finish at 8pm

Christ Our Holy Redeemer Community Cookbook

We are all very excited about the recipes and artwork already submitted for the COHR Community Cookbook, but we need more! We have extended the cut off date to Friday 25th July, to give families time over the holidays to test out their favourite recipes.

Recipes can be uploaded directly to www.publishedauthors.com.au or printed and placed in your Child’s communication case or the recipe submission box in the foyer.

Artwork for the front cover and inside pages can also be placed into the recipe submission box too. We have had some wonderful submissions already by some very talented artists!

We are so excited to see the finished book in print!

Book Fair

Read about our Book Fair that is taking place in the first two weeks of next term on our Library News page of this newsletter.

NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year and this year will be celebrated on Sunday 6th July to Sunday 13th July 2025, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

I encourage everyone to take part in our celebrations by reading the Learning and Teaching page of this newsletter and contributing to our whole school display.

Jeans for a Cause Day

You may have noticed staff wearing jeans on Wednesday this week. We were supporting our latest Jeans for a Cause initiative raising money for Catholic Mission. We encourage our staff to support social justice initiatives and model compassion and empathy to our school community. If you see jeans being worn, then you know we are raising money for another worthy cause.

Outstanding School Fees

We are currently in the process of reviewing all outstanding school fees for 2025 so we can plan for the rest of the school year. We rely on the school fees to help cover the costs of running the school so the earlier in the year we can receive payment or part payment, the better it is for us to effectively run the school. If you have not made any payments yet, or would like to set up a direct debit payment schedule please contact the office and we can help you with this.

If you are experiencing financial difficulty and would like to have a confidential conversation about school fees, please call the school office on 9569 8966 or email me on principal@cohroakeast.catholic.edu.au to arrange a meeting.
