Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a busy and exciting few weeks in 5/6 and wanted to share some highlights and upcoming events with you.

Athletics Day Despite the wet and rainy conditions, Athletics Day was a fantastic success! A huge thank you to the parent volunteers who braved the weather and supported our students throughout the day. Back in the classroom, we used this event as inspiration for our factual recount writing. It was wonderful to see students applying the literary features and devices we’ve been exploring in class.

Mathematics We are wrapping up our unit on additive thinking with a focus on estimation and rounding. Students have been developing strong mental math strategies and applying their skills to real-world problems.

Literacy Circles Literacy Circles are in full swing, and it’s been great to see students so engaged in their books and participating in rich discussions during their meetings. The level of thinking and collaboration has been very impressive!

Buddies

This week, our Grade 5/6 students enjoyed spending time with their Foundation and Year 1 buddies during a fun and friendly game of Snakes and Ladders. It was heartwarming to see the older students showing patience, encouragement, and leadership as they guided their younger peers through the game. These buddy sessions continue to build strong relationships across the school and help foster a supportive and inclusive community.
