Hello, from Carolyn.
Respect, responsibility and kindness
Hello everyone,
Is your child complaining about the cold in the morning?? Then call in to the office and buy them a Bendigo PS beanie! They look great and I can certainly vouch for their head warming properties!
Reducing interruptions at school.
At our staff meeting this week we discussed our 2024 Staff Opinion survey results. One item that prompted much discussion was 'Shielding and Buffering', which means, how many times do staff feel like their work days, and learning time in our classrooms, is interrupted. Of course, in a school, There are lots of different things that can be an interruption, however, one we would like to reduce, and we need your help with this, is reducing the number of calls we have from parents after lunch asking us to collect their child from the classroom as they have decided to pick their child up early. Our school days finishes at 3:10pm and students should be here until then.
We understand that there are times when your child has an appointment and they need to leave early, if this is the case, you should log that on Sentral so we know in advance it is happening.
Some afternoons the school phone rings ALOT with parents calling to say they have decided to do an early pick up and asking Lou to let their child know and have them ready at the office. This not only takes Lou away from the office but interrupts the learning time in classrooms too as students gather their belongings together, and then come down to the office.
Please support our staff, and show how much you value your child's learning time, by keeping appointments for outside of school hours when possible, logging appointments on Sentral and collecting your child at 3:10pm.
Choir heading to Long Gully Community Centre.
Next Wednesday, Ms Finch and I are walking our choir members to the Long Gully Community Centre in time for the community lunch. Our choir will be providing beautiful songs for everyone to enjoy. We have already been invited back, and invited to join in the community lunch next time. It's so great to build that connection so we can work together to support our community members.
Our school vision is to empower socially and emotionally competent learners, who are motivated, confident and mindful of self and others- connecting with our local community and with community groups will support our students to develop their confidence, be mindful of others and to feel connected with their community- It's a win-win!
Walking and riding to school.
Do you sometimes wonder what are the safe ways to walk, ride or scoot to school? Last year, we worked with the Bicycle network and Bendigo Health to create an Active Map for our school community. The map is hanging inside our main door so plese come in and check it to find the safe ways for you and your children to walk and ride to school.
