Environment & Sustainability

Hello everyone, here are some reflections from our Year 6 Resurrection Environment and Sustainability Leaders and Garden Assistants
Tharush:
Hi I’m Tharush I’m a Environment and Sustainability Leader and I love being in the garden with Yvonne and Mrs Magree and the team. I like how our garden has many edible plants. Also, I love how the school is trying it’s best to reduce waste. I enjoyed the scarecrow competition even though we didn't win. We had lots of fun making it.
Hill:
Hi I'm an Environment and Sustainability Leader. This year we have had more rubbish free lunches than any other year. We agree that every classroom has made a huge impact. Thanks to all the students, Environment and Sustainability has made a convincing argument that waste can lead up to nothing but pollution. I like being a leader because it is a job where you help and encourage.
Eden:
Hi I’m Eden and I’m a Grade 6 Environment and Sustainability Leader. I like how I get to teach the younger kids about different plants and their purpose and their ecosystem. I like how we get to use our own vegetables that are grown in school to cook different dishes and that the plants are actually used. I like our Sparkly Lunchbox Award and how the classes that work really hard to bring less rubbish are really rewarded instead of just getting a pat on the shoulder and saying good job, they actually get an award!
Aaliyah:
Hi I’m Aaliyah, I like being an Environment and Sustainability Leader this year because I think the garden is really peaceful and I get lots of time to connect with nature. I like being the Environment and Sustainability leader because I have a job to do to make the school better. The rubbish free award is good and it's great to see people bring rubbish free lunches and snacks.
James: We have had a really good reduction of wrappers as more people have started bringing healthier food for the environment which is great for our school. The garden is peaceful and it makes me feel happy and I like the variety of plants. I like that in our Farm to Table program we get to use the different types of plants to make food. I enjoyed putting the scarecrow together for the scarecrow competition

Brandon: The garden is peaceful and nice and quiet. I like helping the students with watering and weeding. I liked helping out with the scarecrow because I liked designing and exploring ideas. I really like Farm to Table and it's good to grow and make your own food and it's also good that Garden Club helps for Farm to Table.
(Garden and Sustainability Assistant )
This term we have seen the daffodils pop up and the fruit trees lose their leaves. We have weeded and watered when needed and planted many new seedlings. We have harvested tomatoes, eggplant and even choke. The younger students have joined in this term enjoying getting to know the garden through scavenger hunts and mindfulness sessions, drawing and smelling herbs from the garden. Thanks again to our amazing volunteers, Yvonne and Peter. We are very grateful for their passion, expertise and support.
