From the Principal's Desk

Lord Jesus, We thank you for your presence in the life of our school.

You speak to us through the events of the year. In our shared plans and hopes and dreams, in the prayers and liturgies and celebration on social occasions, and often enough, in the words of our children.

Bless all of those who are part of our community.

Amen.

Important update: Revised Victorian Curriculum Mathematics Version 2.0- change to Reports

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has revised all curriculum areas taught in Victorian schools to become version 2.0 in all learning areas. The revised Mathematics Curriculum is fully implemented in our school.

Here are the key points you need to know:

  • New achievement standards: the revised Maths Curriculum includes changes to the achievement standards used by teachers to assess and report student learning from Foundation to Year 10.
  • Aggregated reporting: under the new curriculum, teachers will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single aggregated score in Semester 1 and Semester 2. The Progression Point for student progress was previously shown as a dot for each strand of Maths (i.e. Number and Algebra, Space, Statistics, etc.). This year teachers will mark the strands that have been taught each semester and the marks will be aggregated as one dot on the Report.
  • Alignment with the local curriculum: our school's teacher judgements align with our Maths Curriculum program.
  • The initial Semester 1 report will only show achievement, while the Semester 2 report will display both achievement and growth for the strands covered.
  • Our school has recorded and used information from the strands taught in Semester 1 to provide feedback on Student progress. This additional information will be included in students' reports as Key Skills for each strand. Teachers will still use a tick to show progress for each of the Key Skills for each strand.
  • All Maths strands will be taught by the end of the year (some in Semester 1 and some in Semester 2; some will be taught in both semesters.)
  • As a school we have decided to include strand-level achievement data within your child's report. This information is supported by an outline of how the overarching teacher judgement was made.
  • Our teachers use learning evidence from the strands taught each semester to make a holistic judgement that accurately reflects where your child is on the learning continuum for Mathematics Version 2.0

We hope that these updates will provide a clear understanding of your child's progress in Maths.

Teachers are currently writing the Semester 1 Student Progress Reports. Student Progress Reports will be published on Friday, July 25th with Learning in Partnership meetings on July 29th.

On a regular basis, issues with parking and travelling to and from school are raised by members of our school community and the wider community. Some of the reports are due to inconvenience but most are issues of safety for children and families.

We have repeatedly asked families not to use Caroline Chisholm Drive due to the Child Care Centre and Elderly Residents' homes. Vehicles are also travelling too quickly along the driveway from Loxwood Avenue.

The lack of response to our requests to show consideration for the safety of all community members is extremely disappointing and frustrating.

Again, I ask that everyone shows respect for our community's safety by NOT using Caroline Chisholm Drive at all and ALWAYS travelling slowly around our school. Thank you.
