What a busy term it has been for Year 8s! As we approach the back end of the term, it has been great to reflect on several accomplishments across year 8, as well as the general climate for learning. This term, students have been busy with incursions, sports and the emerging leaders forum.

Around the Cohort

Students are getting to the assessment end of the Term, which in the classroom looks like revising and preparing for CAT (Common Assessment Task) weeks. All subjects this term will have some form of assessment, including electives.

Next Semester, students will move into new electives.

Brainstorm Productions

All Year 8 and 9 students came together this term for an incursion run by Brainstorm Productions. The themes were around online safety and bullying. After the show, students were invited to be involved in a Q&A. Students were respectful and entertained.

Sport

Second Place for our Year 8 Girls Open Netballers!

These young athletes made us very proud this year!! Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and spirit were on full display. For the first time in years, we had the chance to showcase the incredible talent within our school on the netball court.  Across three fast-paced and competitive matches, all 11 players took to the court and contributed to a fantastic team effort.  The girls recorded a solid 16–7 win over Maffra Secondary College and followed up with a determined 15–9 victory over Lavalla Catholic College. After winning their pool, they met Catholic College Sale in a competitive final and, despite a strong effort, finished just two goals short, with a final score of 9–7. How lucky are we to have these young superstars in our midst!

Winners are grinners - Year 8 Boys Netballers!

Our Year 8 boys started their netball tournament learning the ropes, especially ‘dragging’ and ‘stepping’ but quickly found their rhythm and roles.

Jie held strong in Centre across all three games, keeping up the pace and delivering solid passes. Liam, our self-appointed captain, was a standout in Goal Defence with crucial intercepts. Bayley and Jaxon controlled the midcourt, maintaining possession and applying pressure. Beau shone in Wing Attack, feeding the ball into the goal ring effectively, while Jack and Tyson’s seamless teamwork led to many goals, securing wins over Sale and Traralgon Colleges.

In the undefeated final against Maffra, tensions were high. After a tight first half, Lachy stepped in as Goal Keeper to counter Maffra’s towering shooter, holding them at bay. Jack sealed the win with two long-range goals, edging out Maffra by just one point.

A massive team effort and a well-deserved victory for the Year 8 boys. We look forward to seeing them play at the next round!
