Year 7 News

As the semester comes to an end. students will be participating in some assessments over the coming weeks. This is to assist teachers in making judgements about their progress and particularly year 7 it is where we make our first assessment of their achievements in relation to the Victorian Curriculum. It’s important student’s try their best at CAT’s and other learning tasks to enable teachers to get a clear understanding of their achievements. Attendance is also important over the coming weeks as teachers are completing their assessments and semester reports.

Sport
Our Year 7 students have had a busy and exciting term participating in various interschool sports across the region. From netball and volleyball to soccer and footy, they’ve shown teamwork, perseverance, and school values at every event.
Here are some reflections from the students themselves:
This term we went to Traralgon for school soccer, we won 2 games but lost one game. It was a good day, and it was fun but hard! – Amjid
Girls' footy was a great day out, we played 3 games and Leah was our coach, we tried our hardest but only won one game. The bus driver was super proud of us and took us to McDonald's on the way back to school! – Hayley Ardran.
Earlier in the term, the year 7 girls went to the Morwell Leisure Centre to play Volleyball in the regional competition. We won all three of our games and will be going to the State Volleyball competition next term. – Annika Alda.
On Wednesday, the 11th June, year 7s had netball at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex in Sale. Our year 7 team only won one game against Maffra, but we still played good and put in a lot of effort in our games against Lavalla and Catholic College Sale. It was a really good day. – Gabby Bonorchis.
Year 7 Girls Netball
Our Year 7 girls' netball team, made up of nine enthusiastic players with a mix of experience levels, showed great spirit and teamwork throughout the day. With coaching from Miss O’Neill, the girls supported one another and steadily developed their skills with each game.
Their first two matches were tough, facing off against strong opponents: Lavalla Catholic College and Catholic College Sale. While they didn’t come away with wins, the girls used those games to figure out their positions and how to play as a team.
Their perseverance paid off in their final game against Maffra Secondary College, where they finished the day with a well-earned win! The girls’ determination, teamwork, and positive attitude were impressive, and they represented the school with pride.
Well done, girls!
Courage to Care
On Thursday, the 3rd of July, year 7 students will be participating in the “Courage to Care – Upstander” incursion. Courage to Care is a charity that is proudly supported by the Department of Education and provides information on how to be an upstander when it can be challenging to stand up.
Camp Coolamatong
The year 7 camp was a highlight this term! The year 7s participated in the theme of “resilience” with night games and celebrations to recognise and celebrate students who showed resilience over the 4 days.
We celebrated two birthdays while we were away with cake and gifts for Amelia and Heidi!
Students engaged with activities such as combat archery, fox holes on the beach, sailing, and the indigenous session with Aunty Cass was a highlight filled with lots of laughs. Students had an opportunity to build new friendships with their peers, and the staff enjoyed playing games and spending time with the students outside the classroom.
At camp we did combat archery, this was my favourite activity because I got to shoot arrows at my friends, but the downside was that I couldn’t shoot Mr Malcolmson because he was on my team. – Collin Van Damme
My favourite activity was the bike ride. First, we did canoeing, and we canoed to the other side of the lake. Cooper and I won all the challenges in the canoeing! Then we rode bikes back to the camp, and it was fun. – James Lagos
At camp, I liked the rock climbing and abseiling – Annika Alda
