You may notice some changes in the Mathematics section of your child’s report. These changes come from new guidelines by the Department of Education, and I’d like to explain what they mean so you can better understand how your child’s progress is being shared.
a) One Progression Point for Mathematics
Previously, your child’s maths achievement was shown as three separate progression points:
From Semester 1, 2025, the Department of Education requires us to report maths with a single combined progression point instead. This progression point shows how your child is performing against the Victorian Curriculum. Because this is the first time we’re using a single point, the usual growth line (which shows progress over time) will not appear on this report. It will return in Semester 2 and future reports.
b) Achievement in Specific Maths Areas Using a 5-Point Scale
At Wheelers Hill Primary School, we want to give you a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas to work on. Along with the progression point, we will now show achievement in specific maths areas using a simple 5-point scale. This will appear below the progression point and cover:
Other subjects, including Literacy, will be reported as usual. We believe these changes will help you better understand your child’s learning in maths while following Department of Education guidelines.
Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have any questions about your child’s report, please feel free to contact their teacher.
Prep enrolments for 2026 will close on Friday 25th July. Information about the process, including how to access the digital VicStudents portal to submit your application, is available on our school website:

Thank you to the families who have already indicated via Compass that a sibling will be attending next year. If you haven’t done so yet, please remember that an application through the portal is still required. Under the Department of Education’s Enrolment and Placement Policy, siblings of current students are guaranteed a Prep place, but an application form is necessary to secure the enrolment.
Offers of acceptance will be sent out from Monday 28th July. Please keep an eye out for these and respond with the required information in due course.
As Term 2 comes to a close, I’d like to wish all our students and their families a safe and happy holiday break. It’s been a busy and successful term filled with lots of learning and a wide range of extracurricular opportunities.
A big thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff for all their hard work and commitment throughout the term.
Congratulations to our wonderful students on an outstanding first semester and I'm sure this great effort will continue in Term 3.
Next term I will be taking on a short term role as Principal of Malmsbury Primary School, a much smaller school in a very different setting in the country. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to gain some new and different experiences in the principal role and will return to Wheelers Hill at the start of Term 4.
While I’m away, Leasyl Richards will be stepping in as Acting Principal, and Virginia Beshara will take on Leasyl's role as an Acting Assistant Principal. I wish them both all the best for a successful and productive term.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 21st July, and I will see you all again at the start of Term 4.
