Kerrie Williams - Assistant Principal : Student Wellbeing
As we are in the last week of Term 2 and Semester 1 with the coldness, rain and the winter solstice, we need to remind each other of the strategies that help and enhance our own wellbeing and that of our students.
The key aspects of our wellbeing are eating well and making sure that we are getting enough sleep so that we can keep living the best versions of ourselves.
With this in mind some key information that we need to share with our community.
As we head towards the end of the semester we will be sending to all of our families a reminder Operoo – that will ask you to check all of your information on your profile – phone numbers, emergency contacts, medical information, etc and sign off that it is accurate and up to date.
This is important in all areas – for example if your child needs to collected from school because they are unwell or have an appointment only someone listed on her profile either parents/guardians or emergency contacts can collect them. This is a duty of care expectation for the school.
We have recently noticed a significant increase in parents arriving at reception without prior notice to collect their children. While we understand that plans can change over the course of the day, we kindly ask all families to follow our established pickup procedures to ensure the safety and smooth operation of our school environment.
To assist us in managing this process efficiently, please ensure you:
We also ask for your cooperation in maintaining a respectful and courteous environment.
Any instances of impatience or rudeness towards staff will not be tolerated.
Our team works hard to support every family, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
By following these guidelines, we can continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for all students.
We have recently received correspondence from the eSafety Commissioner in relation to the restrictions being introduced by the government for our young people on social media. While as a school we will address this in our Wellbeing lessons, a reminder to parents that the eSafety website has both very useful and helpful information and they also offer free webinars for parents on very relevant topics.
These include areas such as Cyberbullying or understanding AI.
We will send reminders of these via SEQTA at the beginning of Term 3.
Now some everyday reminders for all of our families in relation to our day to day work.
A reminder to all of our families of the expectation of explaining student absences each day.
Letters related to significant student absences are being processed this week for families that have not explained the multiple absences of their children.
We thank all of those families who support this process daily by contacting us to inform us of the absence of their child.
As we enter the colder months, we often have additional clothing items that seem to become additional items of uniform.
These include:
Other uniform concerns are:
A reminder to all families that uniform expectations can be found on the front page of the SEQTA page and that our uniform shop is open each Wednesday and Friday between 10.30 and 1.30pm, bookings for the uniform shop can be made via our website - click here!
Staff continue to follow uniform concerns up and some students have been sent home to correct their uniform that is incorrect.
It is hard to believe that we have reached the middle and half way mark of the year and while it is cold and dark at the moment, having passed the winter solstice that each day from now on offers a little more light and hope as we head towards the sun.
Enjoy the break, rest and stay safe and warm
