News and Information from Primary

STEM Semester One Highlights - Miss Shurley

It has been an exciting first half of the year in STEM! Year 5/6 have been researching the importance of bees and are now working hard to design and create Bee Hotels to support the bee population. Year 1/2 and 3/4 have been exploring the many processes involved in the growth and production of food and fibre, with Year 3/4 students even imagining new farming technology to solve agricultural problems. Meanwhile, Kinder have been using their design skills to solve problems presented in fairy tales and Preps are exploring the inputs and outputs of technology.

Visual Art Semester One Highlights - Mrs Clark

Everyone has been busy in Visual Arts this semester making and creating some great pieces of art. Last term we had a focus on line and explored the work of a few Pop Artists. Using some of the artist’s ideas, Year 1/2’s created zebras, Year 3/4’s explored tessellations and Year 5/6’s pyramids. All year levels enjoyed learning about bower birds as we prepared for National Simultaneous Storytime, reading 'Bowerbird Blues'. Some drew about their favourite colours or things they like to collect, others painted beautiful bowerbirds in their blue setting. This term has been all about form and making 3D artworks, there are so many amazing plasticine, modelling dough and clay creations. Some samples of the students’ artwork can be seen near the front office or pop down to the Creative Arts room to take a look.

Assembly: Friday 14th June

As a school we are excited to welcome all families to our Primary Assemblies each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

We wish to advise that there will be a change of venue for our Primary Assembly on Friday 14th June.

Our Primary Assembly will be held on the new undercover basketball courts, or, if the weather is inclement, in the Secondary classrooms.

Premier's Reading Challenge

This year students again have the opportunity to participate in the Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge.

The challenge begins on Monday 17th June and ends on Friday 23rd August.

How many books will you read in 10 weeks? Set your personal reading goal for the Challenge and see how you go!

It doesn’t matter what you read, as long as you are reading.  You are free to choose books you want to read for the Challenge.  You can read books in a variety of formats including print, digital, audiobooks and graphic novels. For younger children, a book that is read to them counts toward their total.  Larger chapter books can be counted as more than one book.

The Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge is open to all students from Kinder to Year 6.

Students will need to complete a log book as part of the challenge, and all students who return a completed log book to the school office will receive a signed certificate from The Honourable Jeremy Rockliff MP Premier of Tasmania.

Log books will be sent home with students prior to the commencement of the challenge, and extras are available from the school office,  or they can be downloaded by clicking on the following link:

Primary Log Book

All completed log books are due to the school office by Friday 30th August.
