Phonics Learning

There has been quite a stir in the media of late about the Victorian Government's announcement that an updated Teaching and Learning Model for all government schools to be implemented from next year that focuses on what's known as "explicit teaching".

See article below:

In MACS schools, we are well ahead of the game. The "Vision For Instruction," initiative was rolled out early this year (see previous Newsletter for article on this).

At St Michael's we have already begun on this journey by introducing a phonics learning program for our junior students, "Little Learners Love Literacy." Little Learners Love Literacy is an explicit and sequential literacy program that teaches ALL children to read, write and spell with confidence. Created from evidence-based research, it includes phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary knowledge, fluency and comprehension.

There are many resources that have been purchased for the school, and we are still looking for volunteers to protect these by covering them with contact. If you are able to assist, please contact the front office!
