Principal's Report

NAPLAN

Recently our Years 3 and 5 NAPLAN results were sent home to families. This information is a ‘snap-shot’ of student achievement and forms only one part of our assessment package. NAPLAN test results provide information on how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and support improvements in teaching and learning. The data from NAPLAN test results gives schools the ability to measure their students’ achievements against national minimum standards and student performance in other states and territories. We are very proud of our students’ achievements and our teachers, these results reflecting our outstanding teacher practice.

The NAPLAN 4 proficiency levels for each assessment area at each year level:

  • Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing.

The tables below show the percentage of our students, in Year 3 and Year 5 performing in the Proficiency bands of Exceeding and Strong. Our results show a comparison to Similar and Network Schools. Similar Schools are those of a comparable socio-economic demographic. Network Schools are those in the Bayside area. State data is not available yet.

Year 1 Grandparents Day

Another lovely and very special occasion was held last week with our Year 1 Grandparents’ Day. The Year 1 students loved welcoming their grandparents and special friends to Gardenvale and hearing about what school was like in the past.  The students also enjoyed performing a number of songs they have been taught by Ms Cook and their class teachers. By the response from the audience, our special visitors loved every minute spent at Gardenvale. For two of our grandparents, it was extra special, as they were returning to their own primary school – they were Gardenvale students!

Parent Opinion Survey

Last week a Compass message was sent regarding the Education Department’s Parent Opinion Survey. Thank you so much to those who have already completed the survey. If you have the time, we would really appreciate it being completed by as many parents as possible. The survey will be conducted online and should take 20 minutes to complete. You will find the survey link and pin code in the ‘Parent Opinion Survey’ Compass message.

2025 School Year

Our Prep enrolments are almost complete for 2025. We are now asking parents to inform the Office in writing if their child/children will be leaving Gardenvale PS at the end of this year (not current Year 6 students). This will greatly assist planning and ensure we have accurate projections for class structures, planning and room allocations.

Have an enjoyable week,

Janine
