District Athletics Day 14th August
Prep: The Preps are now in their second week of their gymnastics unit. They have been improving their vestibular system by participating in many different kinds of movements. These movements include forward rolls, handstands, scorpion kicks, superman jumps as well as many other exercises.
Grades 1 and 2The Grade 1s and 2s have been focusing on their gymnastics skills and our improving their balance and coordination by working on their vestibular system. They have been putting their bodies into all sorts of positions making their vestibular system work very hard on which way up they are facing. They have been focusing on their technique to make sure that they are performing the skills correctly and safely.
Grades 3 and 4
Grade 3s and 4s have started their first term 3 which is target games. We started the term with the Indigenous game of Battendi to commemorate Naidoc week. Students were practicing their hunting skills by using the throwing techniques, Pro step and the Crow hop to hit their target. The students played bocce and corn hole this week and have focused on their underarm throw to land in or close to the target.
Grades 5 and 6
The Grades 5 and 6s have also started target games this term. We started our term by playing the Indigenous target game of Battendi. In this game we practiced our aim and throwing by throwing vortex at targets as if they were kangaroos and we were on the hunt. This week we focused on Bocce and Beanbag golf. Beanbag golf the students had to navigate a course around the school with as little throws as possible making decisions on the type of throw as well as the direction to take.
