Meet your school councillors.

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

We will be regularly including information in our newsletter about school council and our meetings so you are more informed about the work we do as a team to support our wonderful school. This week we are going to introduce you to some of our school councillors-

Vipul Patel.

School Council Treasurer.

Why did you join school council?

I joined school council because I like to contribute to school activities, particularly in the school curriculum, to improve NAPLAN results for the whole school.

How long have you been a member of our school community/on the school council?

I joined the school community and school council in 2023, and this is my last and second year as a school council member.

Do you have any particular interests/hobbies?

I like to watch family movies and documentaries in my free time.

How many children do you have at our school?

My daughter is in prep at Violet Street Primary School, and my son is in grade 4 at Violet Street Primary School.

Craig Wallace.

School Council Secretary.

Why did you join school council?

I joined School Council to contribute more to the school and I really enjoy being involved with groups, committees and organisations seeking to make our community better

I hope to see you around school and don't hesitate to have a chat about school (or Midnight Oil!) with me.

How long have you  been a member of our school community/on school council?

I joined school council this year.

Do you have any particular interests/hobbies?

I am an Adult Fan of Lego (AFOL) and enjoy getting out for a run or bike ride. Musically I am stuck in the 1980s!

How many children do you have at our school?

My two children Audrey (Grade 6) and Lachy (Grade 3) love being at Violet St and I love being part of the school community.

Michelle Baker.

School Council President.

Why did you join school council?

Being a part of our School Council is a privilege and also a great way to get to know others in our school community and invest in our children’s education. Since joining School Council, I’ve had the pleasure of sitting on the principal interview and selection panel and represented School Council during the Whole School Review last year. The School Review was a fascinating insight into the assessment of school performance and meeting of strategic goals and how we, as a representative group look to the future.

How long have you been a member of our school community/on school council?

I’ve been a parent at Violet Street since 2017, when we moved schools from a very small rural primary to Bendigo.  I’ve served on School Council since 2018, bringing with me experience as the Treasurer at my children’s previous primary school council.

Do you have any particular interests/hobbies?

I am a self-employed Company Secretary and Finance Manager for companies limited by shares and sit on various boards across regional and metropolitan Melbourne, particularly in the Community Bank franchise network whereby the strategic investment of company profits into community groups and not for profit organisations is exceptionally rewarding.

How many children do you have at our school?

My oldest daughter Zoe graduated in 2017, my son Billy in 2020 and my youngest child Charlotte is in Grade 5 this year.

Carolyn Tavener.

School Council executive officer.

Why did you join school council?

Principal's are always members of School Council so I joined our School Council in 2022 when I was appointed as Principal to this wonderful school and community.

How long have you been a member of our school community/on school council?

Two years.

Do you have any particular interests/hobbies?

I love reading, being in nature and learning more about the animals that live around us. I love learning about just about everything! And I am learning to lift heavy weights at the gym!

How many children do you have at our school?

Well, whilst I don't personally have any children at our school I do help to look after and support the 215 children we have here!
